Role Context
The Senior Accountant provides both technical accounting oversight and day-to-day
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate and supervise accounting staff responsible for assigned financial activities and ensure work is completed in accordance with established standards.
* Oversee month-end and year-end closing activities, confirming that accruals, adjustments and supporting entries are recorded accurately and on time.
* Review control accounts within the assigned area and ensure balances are properly maintained and reconciled with subsidiary and general ledgers.
* Examine cost reports to verify appropriate allocation of expenditure and investigate unusual or unexplained variances.
* Correct accounting discrepancies and follow up on outstanding reconciliation items before reporting deadlines.
* Apply budgetary controls at the pre-expenditure stage and verify that planned spending remains within approved financial limits.
* Monitor expenditure reports and escalate unauthorized or significant budget overruns for review.
* Verify supplier invoices against contractual terms, approved documentation and payment requirements before endorsement.
* Review payroll information for regular and off-cycle payments, ensuring that transactions are supported by authorized instructions.
* Confirm payroll expenditure aligns with approved budgets and request explanations where material variances occur.
* Administer company bank account activities in line with approved cash management procedures, credit limits and financial risk controls.
* Reconcile internal cash and banking records against bank statements and investigate differences promptly.
* Provide financial information required for preparation of departmental and section budgets.
* Support implementation of approved budgets, financial plans and accounting work programs.
* Investigate significant budget variances and provide management with clear supporting analysis.
* Ensure accounting activities comply with approved policies, processes, systems, procedures and relevant international standards.
* Contribute to departmental performance objectives through accurate financial reporting and timely completion of assigned accounting responsibilities.
* Identify opportunities to improve accounting controls, reporting methods and financial processing efficiency.
* Develop or introduce practical tools that strengthen accuracy, transparency and productivity within accounting operations.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with ISO standards and recognized financial management practices.
* Prepare inputs for MIS reports, financial summaries and progress updates required by management.
* Maintain compliance with applicable HSE, sustainability and organizational governance requirements.
* Coordinate with internal departments, finance colleagues, management and other Group functions on accounting matters.
* Liaise with consultants, service providers, government agencies and other external parties when financial coordination is required.
* Train and develop assigned team members to strengthen technical accounting capability and operational performance.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a closely related discipline.
* Minimum 8 years of relevant accounting and financial control experience.
* Strong practical background in general ledger accounting, financial reconciliation, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
* Experience supervising month-end and year-end closing processes.
* Sound understanding of accrual accounting, control accounts and subsidiary ledger reconciliation.
* Demonstrated ability to review expenditure, identify variances and maintain effective budgetary control.
* Experience verifying supplier invoices, payroll transactions and financial payment documentation.
* Working knowledge of corporate banking activities, bank reconciliation and cash management controls.
* Strong understanding of accounting policies, internal controls and financial governance requirements.
* Ability to interpret financial data and present clear information to management.
* Experience supervising and developing accounting staff.
* Strong numerical accuracy, analytical judgment and attention to financial detail.
* Proficiency in accounting systems, ERP platforms, spreadsheets and financial reporting applications.
* Effective communication skills for coordination with internal stakeholders and external service providers.
* Professional accounting certification is advantageous where applicable.
