Role Context
The Branch Accountant
In a high-volume dealership environment, the position also contributes to smooth month-end closing by preparing accounting inputs, resolving outstanding items, and ensuring transactions comply with internal controls and delegation of authority requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Review daily branch transactions including invoices, receipts, customer collections, supplier payments, and related accounting entries.
* Support vehicle sales transactions by checking pricing, discounts, financial documentation, and required approvals.
* Confirm that commercial adjustments and discount requests comply with authorized limits and internal procedures.
* Monitor daily cash collections and reconcile recorded receipts with actual amounts received.
* Review bank deposits and ensure collected funds are deposited and recorded accurately.
* Maintain proper control of petty cash balances, payments, replenishments, and supporting documents.
* Prepare reconciliations for customer accounts and investigate unmatched or outstanding transactions.
* Review vendor balances and follow up on invoice differences, credit notes, payment issues, and other discrepancies.
* Assist with month-end closing activities including journal support, accrual inputs, provisions, and supporting schedules.
* Track branch operating expenses and compare actual spending with approved purchase orders and financial controls.
* Review supplier invoices for appropriate coding, documentation, and authorization before processing.
* Identify potential overspending, duplicate transactions, incorrect account allocations, or unusual financial entries.
* Maintain finance trackers and reconciliation schedules using Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.
* Coordinate with branch operations, sales, suppliers, and finance teams to resolve outstanding transaction issues.
* Support timely completion of accounting activities in line with month-end reporting deadlines.
* Ensure financial documents remain complete, properly filed, and available for audit review.
* Apply delegation of authority requirements to relevant branch and dealership transactions.
* Maintain compliance with internal accounting policies, financial controls, and audit requirements.
* Use SAP or comparable ERP systems to support transaction processing, reconciliation, and financial reporting.
Ideal Profile
* Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
* 2-4 years of experience in accounting, dealership finance, branch accounting, or high-volume transactional finance.
* Practical understanding of accounting principles, account reconciliation, and financial controls.
* Previous exposure to automotive dealership finance operations is preferred.
* Experience using ERP platforms, particularly SAP.
* Strong numerical accuracy and attention to transaction-level detail.
* Good Microsoft Excel skills for reconciliations, financial trackers, schedules, and routine analysis.
* Familiarity with customer accounts, vendor balances, bank reconciliations, and petty cash processes.
* Understanding of month-end activities including accruals, provisions, journals, and supporting schedules.
* Able to identify discrepancies in invoices, pricing, discounts, account coding, and supporting documents.
* Comfortable managing a high volume of daily accounting activity while meeting fixed reporting deadlines.
