Overview of the Role
The Heavy Vehicle Technician will perform scheduled servicing, repairs, component replacement, and
technical checks on commercial trucks. The objective is to complete work correctly the first time while identifying developing faults before they cause vehicle downtime.
As the Truck Division provides 24-hour service support, the position also involves responding to emergency breakdowns and carrying out repairs in the field when customers require assistance outside normal workshop operations.
Workshop and Field Responsibilities
* Carry out scheduled vehicle servicing and technical checks required for reliable operation.
* Diagnose and repair faults affecting heavy commercial vehicles.
* Replace wear components including brake pads, air bellows, belts, and pulleys.
* Independently service, repair, and overhaul vehicle components within the technician\'s area of expertise.
* Identify potential mechanical problems during workshop and on-site assignments.
* Follow established service procedures and technical best practices to improve productivity and repair efficiency.
* Read, understand, and apply instructions contained in workshop and service manuals.
* Complete service checklists where applicable.
* Maintain responsibility for the quality and accuracy of completed work.
* Clearly explain completed repairs and servicing to the Foreman and Service Advisor.
* Provide field support for vehicle breakdowns when required.
* Participate in emergency and out-of-hours breakdown response as part of the division\'s 24-hour service support.
Technical Skills
The role requires practical expertise in heavy commercial vehicle maintenance and the ability to complete servicing and repairs with limited supervision. Technicians should be comfortable interpreting technical documentation, following prescribed repair procedures, and identifying developing faults during routine maintenance.
Keeping technical knowledge current is important to maintaining repair quality and supporting the operational reliability expected by commercial vehicle customers.
Required Skills and Experience
* At least 4-5 years of experience working with heavy commercial vehicles.

* Trade certificate or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering, or a completed apprenticeship.
* 4-5 years of hands-on heavy commercial vehicle experience.
