Role Context
The FX and Rates Trader is responsible for managing trading activities in emerging markets while supporting overall desk performance. The role contributes to revenue generation through market-making, customer flow management, and the development of new trading opportunities while maintaining strict risk controls.
Key Responsibilities
* Execute FX and rates trades across emerging and frontier markets to maximize profitability
* Manage customer flow and provide competitive pricing to support sales and client engagement
* Collaborate with sales teams on client visits and trading strategies to strengthen client relationships
* Analyze market trends and provide insights, trade ideas, and commentary
* Work closely with quant teams to refine pricing models and valuation frameworks
* Ensure pricing systems, curves, and trading frameworks align with market standards
* Monitor and manage risk exposure within approved limits and counterparty guidelines
* Identify new product opportunities and regional market expansion strategies
* Develop and implement effective risk mitigation techniques
* Enhance trading desk performance through process improvements and innovation
* Support reporting processes and improve operational efficiency
* Mentor junior traders and contribute to team development
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related discipline
* Minimum 5 years of experience in FX and rates trading or global markets roles
* Strong knowledge of global markets products, pricing models, and trading strategies
* Experience in emerging or frontier markets, including Sub-Saharan Africa, is an advantage
* Proven ability to manage risk and deliver consistent financial performance
* Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills
* Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced trading environments
