Role Context
The Internal Audit Manager - Risk and Markets will participate in and lead audits covering Risk Management and Global Markets activities across the FAB Group. The role provides independent assurance to management by evaluating governance, risk management, internal controls, accounting systems, and enterprise risk management frameworks across UAE and international operations.
This position requires close engagement with ERM teams, Global Markets stakeholders, control functions, and senior audit leadership. The successful candidate will help define audit scopes, establish the audit universe, conduct risk assessments, review audit workpapers, report significant findings, agree management action plans, and validate remediation for open audit observations.
Key Responsibilities
* Participate in and lead audits covering Risk, Enterprise Risk Management, Treasury, Trading, Global Markets, and related support functions across the FAB Group.
* Assess governance, risk management, and control procedures to determine whether they are adequate, effective, efficient, and aligned with bank standards.
* Support audits of Operational Risk, Fraud Risk, Credit Risk, Market Risk, Capital Management, International Risk, Risk Appetite, Stress Testing, RRP, Pillar 1, Pillar 2, and Pillar 3 activities.
* Assist in establishing and maintaining the audit universe for Group Risk and ERM-related functions.
* Provide input to the annual risk-based internal audit plan, audit scopes, objectives, and terms of reference.
* Ensure assigned risk vertical and second-line audits are completed in line with the annual audit plan, approved objectives, timelines, and quality expectations.
* Inform the Head of Audit of potential delays, scope changes, or required amendments to the annual audit plan.
* Evaluate controls around the safeguarding of bank assets in line with internal audit guidance and Group Fraud Risk Management Policy.
* Prepare and maintain risk assessments for process streams within the ERM audit universe.
* Promote periodic self-assessment of risks and controls with business and risk stakeholders.
* Establish, update, and maintain audit programs in the central audit management tool.
* Conduct audit fieldwork and assess whether line management has properly identified and classified risks in their activities.
* Review whether data and transaction processing standards meet expectations for reliability, integrity, and availability.
* Identify weaknesses in governance, controls, risk management, systems, and procedures, then report and escalate significant findings in a timely manner.
* Review and finalize audit worksheets, draft audit reports, and work performed by audit team members.
* Discuss and finalize audit reports with GIA management and business stakeholders within required timelines after fieldwork completion.
* Negotiate documented management action plans with unit management to resolve identified audit issues.
* Follow up pending audit observations with unit management and ensure corrective actions are properly implemented.
* Validate remediation submissions by reviewing evidence and closing observations in the bank’s tracking system.
* Prepare or review audit MIS, dashboards, and audit committee presentation slides related to ERM audit work.
* Provide ongoing governance, risk management, and control advice to unit management based on market practice and audit insights.
* Act as an Audit Business Partner for ERM line managers and maintain regular meetings to identify emerging risks and control gaps.
* Conduct investigations or special reviews assigned by the Head of Audit or GCAO.
* Provide guidance, on-the-job training, and knowledge sharing to junior colleagues to support team objectives.
* Monitor financial performance of assigned audit activities against approved budgets and report variances to management.
* Execute work in line with GIA policies, guidance notes, procedures, practice notes, group requirements, and quality standards.
* Maintain current knowledge of products, processes, economic trends, banking practices, regulatory developments, and international market conditions.
Ideal Profile
* Associate Chartered Accountant qualification with a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
* CFA, FRM, CIA, or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
* 3-5 years of post-qualification experience in Internal Audit, Market Risk, Middle Office, Product Control, or supervisory Operations within an international or large regional bank.
* Strong exposure to Treasury, Trading, Global Markets, Enterprise Risk Management, or related support and control functions.
* Control function background is preferred.
* Detailed understanding of Treasury, Trading, Global Markets products, risk management processes, enablement functions, and control frameworks.
* Good knowledge of market risk, operational risk, capital adequacy, ICAAP, enterprise risk management, and regulatory requirements.
* Strong understanding of UAE banking regulations and relevant international regulatory environments.
* Ability to conduct risk-based audits, review internal controls, identify control gaps, and develop practical audit recommendations.
* Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving capability, and initiative.
* Professional English report writing skills with the ability to produce clear audit reports, working papers, dashboards, and presentation material.
* Self-directed and able to manage multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining accuracy and audit quality.
* Ability to build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, risk teams, Global Markets teams, and audit colleagues.
* Willingness to share knowledge, coach junior team members, and contribute to continuous improvement of audit practices.
