Role Context
The Investment Banking Director - Public Sector will manage and grow assigned client business across the Investment Banking Government and Public Sector portfolio. The role focuses on strengthening client relationships, improving service quality, supervising team activities, achieving revenue targets, and maintaining strong portfolio credit quality.
This position requires close collaboration with Managing Directors, product teams, coverage teams, enablement units, risk, compliance, and other internal stakeholders. The successful candidate will originate new business opportunities, structure and negotiate deals, prepare key transaction documents, maintain account plans, manage KYC and AML requirements, and support the bank’s strategic growth with government and public sector clients.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and grow assigned government and public sector client portfolios within Investment Banking.
* Support the development of the team strategy and business plan with Managing Directors.
* Increase the bank’s share of target client wallet and improve relationship returns.
* Originate new business opportunities across relevant banking products for target clients.
* Maintain strong client relationships while ensuring satisfaction, service quality, and portfolio discipline.
* Work closely with product teams and other stakeholders to maximize business opportunities and streamline deal execution.
* Participate in financial analysis of clients, industries, and markets to identify opportunities and risks.
* Develop and execute term sheets, information memorandums, financial models, mandate letters, and other transaction-related documentation.
* Review, pitch, negotiate, and conclude deals with clients and internal stakeholders.
* Examine and resolve credit, market, and operational risk aspects of transactions with product and enablement teams.
* Maintain credit quality of client relationships within acceptable levels set by bank management.
* Achieve individual and team financial performance targets for the assigned portfolio.
* Identify cross-selling opportunities and increase product penetration with key clients.
* Ensure account plans are prepared, updated, and maintained for all key clients.
* Ensure client files, documents, approvals, and required records are maintained accurately.
* Submit credit reviews on time and ensure agreed conditions are properly met.
* Maintain a satisfactory audit outcome across the assigned portfolio.
* Manage profit and loss responsibility for the assigned portfolio within approved budget levels.
* Supervise subordinates’ day-to-day activities, client interactions, and follow-up actions.
* Motivate, develop, and coach team members to support performance and professional growth.
* Contribute to talent development initiatives and ensure the availability of skills required for business needs.
* Assist the Sector Head in day-to-day administrative and transactional activities to support continuity of work.
* Manage and follow up on KYC and compliance requirements in line with bank policies, AML standards, and regulatory expectations.
* Ensure all internal processes for existing portfolio clients and new-to-bank clients are completed according to bank procedures.
* Review and analyse financial statements, MIS, and reports to track performance against budgets.
* Ensure effective implementation of CIB policies, procedures, controls, and governance requirements.
* Adhere to process KPIs, operational risk management requirements, business continuity planning standards, and internal audit expectations.
* Follow all relevant policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions to ensure work is controlled and consistent.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related discipline.
* Master’s degree in Business Administration is preferred.
* 10+ years of experience in Investment Banking.
* Strong knowledge of the banking sector, government and public sector coverage, and corporate client relationship management.
* Good understanding of FAB’s banking products, business strategies, portfolio management expectations, and client coverage model.
* Proven ability to originate business opportunities and manage senior client relationships.
* Strong financial analysis, data analysis, credit analysis, and financial modelling skills.
* Experience preparing term sheets, information memorandums, mandate letters, and transaction-related documentation.
* Ability to assess credit, market, operational, KYC, AML, and compliance requirements linked to client transactions.
* Strong negotiation, deal execution, and stakeholder coordination skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and adjust quickly to changing business priorities.
* Computer proficiency and strong working knowledge of banking software systems.
* Capable of supervising, coaching, and developing team members in a high-performance banking environment.
