Role Context
The Portfolio Manager - Private ABS will help expand the structured credit investment mandate within GM Investments. This role combines origination, investment structuring, portfolio construction, performance monitoring, risk analytics, and stakeholder engagement across private ABS and illiquid credit opportunities. The position contributes to portfolio diversification, stable income generation, capital-efficient deployment, and long-term growth by targeting senior and super-senior risk positions aligned with the bank’s internal risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
What You’ll Do
* Build and actively manage private ABS investment portfolios covering SME lending, consumer finance, fintech receivables, and specialty asset classes.
* Originate forward-flow transactions with fintech platforms, non-bank lenders, specialty finance firms, and receivables originators.
* Structure and oversee warehouse facilities, prefunding arrangements, term securitization transactions, and rated public securitization take-outs where appropriate.
* Develop proprietary investment frameworks that support private ABS growth while remaining aligned with internal risk appetite, regulatory limits, and capital treatment requirements.
* Assess senior and super-senior structured credit exposure, including AAA, AA, and A risk profiles, within approved investment parameters.
* Maintain active engagement with fintech platforms, originators, servicers, arrangers, rating agencies, legal advisors, and internal control teams.
* Source and evaluate new private credit opportunities across BNPL, merchant cash advance, trade receivables, digital SME lending, consumer finance, and other suitable receivable-backed assets.
* Apply macroeconomic analysis, relative value assessment, structural review, and credit fundamentals to investment decisions.
* Perform cash-flow modelling, stress testing, scenario analysis, collateral analysis, loss forecasting, and structure-level risk assessment.
* Monitor portfolio performance, servicer reporting, asset quality, delinquency movement, prepayment trends, recovery assumptions, and trigger events.
* Implement strong P and L attribution, risk monitoring, and performance analytics for private and illiquid structured credit portfolios.
* Work closely with the Head of Investments and Head of Fixed Income Investments to refine strategy, approve frameworks, and scale the structured credit mandate.
* Review legal documentation, waterfall mechanics, eligibility criteria, credit enhancement, concentration limits, and reporting requirements for new transactions.
* Support investment committee submissions with clear analysis, risk rationale, expected return profile, downside scenarios, and capital impact.
* Ensure ongoing compliance with FAB governance standards, investment policies, regulatory constraints, audit expectations, and portfolio risk controls.
Ideal Profile
* Strong background in structured credit, private ABS, securitization, fixed income investments, specialty finance, or private credit portfolio management.
* Experience originating, structuring, or investing in asset-backed transactions linked to SME loans, consumer receivables, fintech platforms, credit cards, trade receivables, BNPL, or specialty finance assets.
* Practical understanding of warehouse facilities, forward-flow agreements, prefunding structures, term ABS, credit enhancement, rating agency criteria, and securitization take-outs.
* Advanced modelling capability, including cash-flow waterfalls, stress testing, scenario analysis, delinquency assumptions, loss curves, and collateral performance analytics.
* Ability to assess senior and super-senior risk positions within a regulated banking environment.
* Strong knowledge of credit risk, capital treatment, regulatory considerations, investment governance, and internal risk appetite frameworks.
* Proven ability to engage with originators, servicers, arrangers, fintech platforms, rating agencies, legal teams, risk stakeholders, and investment committees.
* Strong analytical judgment with the ability to connect macro trends, asset performance, relative value, and structural protections.
* Commercial mindset with disciplined risk awareness and the ability to scale proprietary investment frameworks responsibly.
* Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline; CFA, MBA, or relevant postgraduate qualification is preferred.
