Field Operator, Power Generation & Distribution

- Job Purpose
The Field Operator will be responsible for operating and monitoring field equipment in the Power Station/Power Generation plant, ensuring optimal operational status. Working on a shift basis, the role includes an emergency response function and requires adherence to QAFCO’s Integrated Management Systems procedures. The Field Operator will have the authority to make critical field-related decisions during emergencies and normal operations, in consultation with the Panel Operator and Shift Supervisor.

- Key Responsibilities
- Operate field equipment following approved operating, safety, and environmental procedures to ensure effective plant operations.
- Make real-time decisions regarding equipment start-up and shutdown based on operational conditions and abnormal situations.
- Monitor and log equipment operating parameters, promptly reporting any irregularities to the Panel Operator or Shift Supervisor.
- Participate in prescribed off-the-job training courses to enhance knowledge of plant operations and procedures.
- Develop a thorough understanding of operational procedures through on-the-job training to ensure readiness for independent operation.
- Act as the first-line responder in emergencies or major incidents to minimize potential loss or damage to personnel, assets, and the environment.
- Provide on-the-job training and guidance to new or trainee operators to build their skills for independent operation.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by adhering to housekeeping procedures.

- Desired Candidate Profile
- High School diploma plus a 2-year diploma in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of direct experience in the Fertilizer, Petrochemical, Chemical, or Oil & Gas industry.
- Hands-on experience in the start-up, shutdown, and normal operations of power stations, including:
- Gas turbine-driven generators, transformers, pumps, motors, batteries, battery chargers, PLCs.
- 66kV indoor/outdoor substations, switchboards, oil/vacuum/SF6 gas-insulated circuit breakers.
- Operation of GE Frame 6 gas turbines, Rolls Royce Avon gas generators, Speedtronic Mark V control system, and Honeywell Micro TDC 3000 operating system (preferred).
- Familiarity with steam and gas turbine power generators, power distribution systems, DCS processes, Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems, and Fire & Gas systems.
- Ability to manage critical situations, including safe shutdown and start-up of process systems while protecting personnel and equipment.
- Competence in reading engineering drawings, diagrams, and extracting critical information from specifications.
- Skilled in using firefighting equipment and fully understanding the Permit to Work (PTW) system.
