Process Projects Engineer

- About the Role
This role involves full responsibility for managing capital projects from start to finish, ensuring efficient execution in line with QAFCO’s project methodology, procedures, and specifications. The Process Projects Engineer will oversee the entire project lifecycle, from pre-project planning and execution to final close-out, while ensuring high-quality outcomes and alignment with the company’s goals.
Key responsibilities include analyzing complex engineering problems, conducting root cause analyses, preparing tenders, performing technical evaluations, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution. The role requires strong leadership and coordination skills to manage diverse teams and ensure timely and cost-efficient project completion.
- Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate capital projects to meet safety, scope, schedule, quality, and budget objectives.
- Form project teams and engage key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage the entire project cycle, from pre-project (FEL/FEED) to final execution (EPC), ensuring safe handover of facilities.
- Lead project teams and liaise with stakeholders to resolve challenges and ensure project objectives are met.
- Understand project proposals, scope, schedule, and budget, and plan activities accordingly.
- Develop project schedules and cost estimates, and monitor progress using the SAP system.
- Ensure timely approvals by preparing presentations for decision-gate processes.
- Oversee the preparation of design basis, process specifications, FEED packages, and bid documents for tendering.
- Coordinate technical evaluations, contract recommendations, and ensure high-quality procurement.
- Review vendor documents and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Maintain project documentation, including lessons learned, root cause analyses, and risk management records.
- Facilitate effective communication among proponents, project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project progression.
- Stay updated on technological advancements and recommend improvements for cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure proper project close-out, including financial aspects and as-built documentation.
- Provide technical support across multiple projects, ensuring adherence to quality and schedule requirements.
- Lead and mentor assigned contract resources to ensure tasks are executed according to QAFCO’s standards.
- Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering; PMP certification is an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in projects related to petrochemical or ammonia/urea manufacturing plants.
- Experience as a Process Engineer is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of process engineering and project management, including international standards and best practices.
- Proficiency in preparing bid packages and handling procurement for equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, instrumentation, and packaged equipment.
- Familiarity with P&IDs, PFDs, data sheets, cause & effect matrices, and trip & interlock logic diagrams.
- Ability to develop and manage project execution plans, interface management, change management, and construction strategies.
- Experience in coordinating small, medium, and large capital projects.
- Strong understanding of engineering codes and standards, and experience with HAZOP studies.
- Ability to interpret and manage various types of engineering drawings.
