Position Overview

Aldar Education is hiring an organised and student-focused librarian to manage learning resources, strengthen information literacy, support curriculum delivery, and encourage children to become confident and enthusiastic lifelong readers.

Role Context

The School Librarian will oversee the daily operation and continued development of the school library at AQS. The position combines resource management, student guidance, curriculum support, library systems administration, and reading promotion.

Through close collaboration with teachers and school leaders, the librarian will ensure that books, magazines, digital materials, and


topic-based resources remain accessible, relevant, and aligned with classroom learning. The role will also create a welcoming environment where students can read independently, conduct research, participate in literacy activities, and develop responsible library habits.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver library and information literacy sessions that teach students how to locate, assess, and use printed and digital resources independently.
* Help children develop effective research habits, responsible information use, and confidence when navigating library materials.
* Select and order age-appropriate books, magazines, reference materials, and online resources for KG1 to Grade 5 students.
* Consult teachers when identifying resources needed to support curriculum units, classroom topics, and school learning priorities.
* Distribute subject-related books and materials to classrooms according to teaching schedules and academic requirements.
* Catalogue all library resources using the Destiny Follett automated library management system.
* Apply the Dewey Decimal Classification system accurately when organising and recording library materials.
* Label, cover, process, and prepare new books before making them available for circulation.
* Keep student, teacher, borrowing, inventory, and catalogue records accurate and current within the library database.
* Manage the borrowing and return of books and ensure returned materials are shelved correctly.
* Follow up with students and employees regarding overdue library items.
* Process payments and maintain appropriate records for books that are lost or damaged.
* Repair damaged books where practical and withdraw unsuitable resources according to school procedures.
* Maintain an attractive, orderly, inclusive, and safe library environment for quiet reading and independent study.
* Create engaging book displays that introduce students to different genres, authors, cultures, and reading levels.
* Monitor new children\'s literature releases and recommend suitable titles based on student ages, interests, and reading abilities.
* Organise author visits, storytelling events, literacy campaigns, reading challenges, and related enrichment activities.
* Coordinate book fairs with local bookshops and publishing partners.
* Administer the school Book Club by distributing catalogues, consolidating orders, coordinating purchases, and issuing books to students.
* Respond professionally to enquiries from teachers, support staff, students, and parents.
* Assist with the development and review of library policies, borrowing procedures, and resource-management practices.
* Attend training relevant to library systems, safeguarding, literacy development, and school operations.
* Follow school policies, health and safety requirements, safeguarding procedures, and applicable UAE regulations.
* Complete additional duties appropriate to the level and responsibilities of the position.

Ideal Profile

* Diploma in Library Studies, Information Studies, or a related discipline.
* Bachelor\'s degree in Library and Information Studies is preferred.
* 1-2 years of experience working as a librarian.
* Previous experience within a primary school, charter school, learning centre, or children\'s library is advantageous.
* Practical knowledge of library cataloguing, circulation processes, inventory control, and resource classification.
* Experience using Destiny Follett or another automated library management platform is desirable.
* Familiarity with the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
* Strong interest in children\'s literature and promoting reading among primary-age students.
* Fluent written and spoken English communication skills.
* Arabic language ability is preferred.
* Strong interpersonal skills for communicating with students, parents, teachers, and colleagues in a multicultural environment.
