Role Context
The Associate Mechanical Engineer - MEP Rail will contribute to the design, coordination, technical review, and delivery of mechanical systems for major rail and transportation infrastructure projects in Dubai. The position supports engineering studies, PS&E packages, technical specifications, cost estimates, design calculations, BIM coordination, clash resolution, and interdisciplinary reviews. The role is important for ensuring mechanical design outputs are practical, coordinated, sustainable, cost-effective, and aligned with rail project requirements, local regulations, and international engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialized mechanical engineering input for rail, metro, transportation, and large infrastructure project studies and design packages.
* Serve as a senior technical advisor for project teams on mechanical systems, MEP coordination, design quality, and discipline-specific engineering decisions.
* Develop study methods, design procedures, calculation approaches, and review workflows that support high-quality and cost-effective project delivery.
* Prepare and review mechanical design calculations, drawings, schedules, layouts, specifications, reports, and technical deliverables.
* Use REVIT and BIM-based workflows to develop coordinated engineering solutions and support clash detection across MEP, civil, architectural, structural, and rail systems.
* Perform heat load calculations and mechanical system sizing using appropriate design software and recognized engineering methods.
* Participate in interdisciplinary reviews to ensure mechanical design outputs are fully coordinated with electrical, plumbing, fire life safety, civil, structural, architectural, and rail operation requirements.
* Support the development of PS&E packages by completing mechanical discipline components with accuracy and technical consistency.
* Prepare technical specification sections for mechanical systems, materials, equipment, installation standards, testing requirements, and performance criteria.
* Carry out quality control reviews of design drawings, calculations, BIM models, and technical documentation before issue.
* Develop construction cost estimates and technical effort estimates for mechanical engineering work packages.
* Provide input into engineering budgets, design schedules, resource requirements, and project delivery plans.
* Coordinate mechanical systems with rail-specific operational requirements, station layouts, tunnel interfaces, plant rooms, ventilation strategies, and infrastructure constraints.
* Support sustainability and energy-efficient design practices by considering system efficiency, lifecycle performance, operational reliability, and maintainability.
* Work with project managers, discipline leads, BIM teams, engineers, clients, and stakeholders to resolve design issues and maintain delivery progress.
* Organize multiple project deliverables while ensuring deadlines, technical quality, compliance requirements, and documentation standards are achieved.
* Support technical presentations, design meetings, coordination workshops, and internal reviews related to mechanical and MEP rail systems.
Ideal Profile
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
* Strong experience working on large infrastructure projects in the Middle East.
* Experience in mechanical design, MEP coordination, and infrastructure engineering within transportation, rail, metro, or major civil projects.
* Capable in REVIT with the ability to work confidently within a BIM environment and develop coordinated engineering solutions.
* Proficient in heat load calculations and other mechanical design software used for system sizing, performance checks, and design validation.
* Solid understanding of mechanical systems coordination, clash detection, constructability review, and multidisciplinary interface management.
* Preferred experience with rail-specific mechanical systems, metro stations, railway infrastructure, or transportation project environments.
* Knowledge of sustainability and energy-efficient mechanical design practices will be an advantage.
* Strong analytical ability with practical problem-solving skills and attention to technical detail.
* Ability to manage several design deliverables, technical inputs, calculations, and coordination tasks at the same time.
* Clear communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with multicultural teams, clients, project managers, BIM coordinators, and discipline specialists.
* Familiarity with project management tools, engineering documentation systems, design registers, and technical review processes.
* Ability to contribute to engineering budgets, project schedules, cost estimates, technical specifications, and quality control procedures.
