Role Summary
BIM and GIS Drafter in Dubai will support AECOM’s infrastructure project teams by preparing, updating, and managing technical drawings, layouts, redline markups, as-built records, utility coordination drawings, and CAD documentation using MicroStation, AutoCAD, BIM, and GIS tools. This role is suited for a detail-oriented drafting and digital engineering professional with strong experience in sewerage, stormwater, irrigation, drainage, roads, pipeline profiles, microtunneling layouts, and authority-compliant drawing standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and revise technical drawings, layouts, construction drawings, and as-built documentation using the latest versions of MicroStation and AutoCAD.
* Interpret design inputs from engineers and convert them into accurate, coordinated, and detailed construction drawings.
* Review, update, and maintain drawings in line with project specifications, RTA requirements, Dubai Municipality requirements, DEWA standards, and AECOM quality procedures.
* Track and verify existing sewerage, stormwater, and irrigation networks in Dubai using as-built records from drainage, irrigation, and roads projects.
* Conduct site surveys and coordinate with inspectors to verify construction progress and collect accurate field data for as-built documentation.
* Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, BIM teams, GIS teams, and document control teams to ensure timely drawing submission and approval.
* Update and prepare redline markups, section details, pipeline profiles, utility layouts, and microtunneling shaft drawings based on verified field data.
* Maintain an organized archive and digital record system for project drawings, revisions, submissions, markups, and approved documents.
* Review contractor as-built drawings and shop drawing submissions to verify compliance with actual site conditions and approved project requirements.
* Provide technical drafting support during construction to ensure drawings reflect approved changes, site conditions, and actual execution.
* Support preparation of utility coordination drawings to improve accuracy across multiple services and reduce clashes or conflicts.
* Ensure drawing deliverables follow AECOM and authority CAD standards, including layering, scaling, title blocks, file naming, and revision control.
* Use BIM and GIS platforms to support model coordination, mapping, data management, and infrastructure documentation.
* Support preparation and management of digital engineering outputs using Civil 3D, Autodesk MAP, Bentley MicroStation, Infraworks, ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks where required.
Candidate Requirements
* Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Civil and Survey Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Equivalent technical qualification may be considered for candidates with strong relevant experience.
* Typically 6+ years of related drafting, BIM, GIS, CAD, or infrastructure documentation experience.
* Minimum 10 years of experience in BIM and GIS engineering roles is preferred.
* Strong experience preparing infrastructure drawings, as-built drawings, utility coordination drawings, pipeline profiles, section details, and construction layouts.
* Proficiency in BIM and CAD software, including Autodesk Civil 3D, Autodesk MAP, Bentley MicroStation, Infraworks, AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
* Strong command of GIS software such as Esri ArcGIS and QGIS.
* Experience with sewerage, stormwater, irrigation, drainage, roads, utilities, and microtunneling infrastructure projects in Dubai or the UAE is an advantage.
* Good understanding of RTA, Dubai Municipality, DEWA, AECOM CAD standards, drawing submission procedures, and project documentation workflows.
* Ability to interpret engineering inputs, field data, redline markups, as-built records, and contractor submissions accurately.
* Strong attention to detail, drawing coordination, digital filing, documentation control, and technical drafting accuracy.
* Good communication and coordination skills for working with engineers, inspectors, contractors, BIM teams, GIS teams, and document controllers.
