Role Context
The Civil Inspector - Infrastructure Works supports construction supervision by verifying that site activities are completed according to approved drawings, project specifications, workmanship standards, quality requirements, and HSE procedures. The role contributes to reliable infrastructure delivery by inspecting stormwater networks, pump station works, utility-related civil activities, line and level checks, material testing, inspection requests, daily site records, and non-conformance follow-up.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspect civil construction works to confirm compliance with approved drawings, plans, specifications, workmanship standards, and project quality requirements.
* Ensure construction activities are carried out in strict accordance with plans, specifications, approved methods, and site instructions.
* Coordinate daily with the contractor’s foreman and site teams to monitor work progress, quality issues, and inspection readiness.
* Report non-conformances, questionable construction methods, deviations, and site concerns to the Assistant Resident Engineer or Resident Engineer.
* Process, review, and track Inspection Requests and maintain clear records of approvals, rejections, comments, and follow-up actions.
* Coordinate sampling and testing activities with discipline inspectors, laboratories, and QA-QC teams.
* Support verification of suspect materials where additional testing, sampling, or quality checks are required.
* Coordinate with surveyors to verify line, level, grade, alignment, and setting-out details for ongoing and completed works.
* Maintain detailed daily site diaries and logs covering activities, site issues, manpower, equipment, approvals, rejected works, and construction progress.
* Support quantity measurements and maintain records for Day Works where applicable.
* Inspect stormwater works, pump station civil activities, utility infrastructure, excavation, backfilling, concrete works, and related site operations.
* Interface professionally with stakeholders adjacent to the works to help minimize construction impacts where required.
* Monitor site activities for compliance with project HSE requirements and actively promote safe work practices.
* Identify unsafe conditions, poor workmanship, incomplete works, and quality risks during routine inspections.
* Maintain organized inspection documentation, site reports, test coordination records, and construction supervision files.
* Use reporting and project management systems to access data, update records, and support project communication.
* Work closely with engineers, contractors, surveyors, laboratories, inspectors, and supervision teams to resolve site issues.
* Perform other responsibilities related to civil inspection and construction supervision as assigned by project leadership.
Ideal Profile
* Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in infrastructure construction supervision.
* Experience in stormwater and utility projects is preferred.
* Strong ability to interpret and enforce engineering drawings, technical specifications, inspection requirements, and quality standards.
* Good understanding of civil construction methods, stormwater works, pump stations, utilities, excavation, backfilling, and site quality checks.
* Excellent inspection, reporting, documentation, and daily site record-keeping skills.
* Computer literate with experience using reporting systems, project management systems, and construction documentation tools.
* Good communication and coordination skills within a site-based construction environment.
* Ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, foremen, surveyors, laboratories, engineers, and project stakeholders.
* Knowledge of HSE requirements and commitment to safe work practices on active construction sites.
* Experience or background in Geotechnical Engineering or geotechnical-related projects will be an advantage.
* Detail-focused, disciplined, and able to maintain accurate inspection records under busy site conditions.
