Role Context
The Regional Leader - Shop Design and VM will guide shop design and visual merchandising activities across IKEA stores in the region. The role translates the regional business calendar, consumer behaviour insights, commercial objectives, and global IKEA standards into practical store layouts and inspiring product presentation solutions.
Working with Marketing, Communication, Interior Design, store operations, commercial teams, and project stakeholders, the position will support new store openings, refurbishments, seasonal changes, and range updates. It will also serve as a regional centre of expertise for visual merchandising, helping store teams improve execution quality, commercial awareness, and customer engagement.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead regional shop design and visual merchandising planning in accordance with the commercial calendar and business priorities.
* Mobilise Communication and Interior Design teams to deliver coordinated home furnishing solutions across IKEA stores.
* Plan and implement new shop concepts, visual merchandising initiatives, and range presentation solutions.
* Develop store layouts that improve customer flow, product visibility, inspiration, and commercial performance.
* Adapt global IKEA solutions to national market requirements without weakening brand identity.
* Ensure product presentation reflects local lifestyles, household needs, buying behaviour, and home furnishing trends.
* Use customer insight and retail performance information to improve store design decisions.
* Strengthen the competitiveness of the IKEA range through clear visual storytelling and commercially effective displays.
* Guide store teams in presenting products according to customer needs, seasonal demand, and sales priorities.
* Review store execution and identify opportunities to improve layouts, displays, navigation, and customer experience.
* Coach Shop Design co-workers, Interior Designers, Visual Merchandisers, and store visual merchandising managers.
* Build team capability through mentoring, structured training, practical demonstrations, and knowledge transfer.
* Support the development of aspiring Interior Designers and Visual Merchandisers.
* Contribute tools, working methods, and practical solutions to the IKEA knowledge base.
* Act as the regional reference for visual merchandising competence, standards, and implementation practices.
* Sponsor change initiatives and help store teams understand and adopt updated processes.
* Contribute to Marketing, Communication, and Interior Design plans and shared regional objectives.
* Measure performance across assigned areas and use KPIs to improve efficiency and execution quality.
* Support regional expansion projects during commercial planning, store build-up, installation, and opening phases.
* Coordinate with project teams, store management, commercial functions, and operational stakeholders.
* Improve existing design methods, project practices, and ways of working.
* Monitor competitors, home furnishing developments, customer expectations, and retail design trends.
* Balance creative ambition with commercial targets, operational requirements, budgets, and implementation timelines.
* Ensure shop design and visual merchandising activities contribute to sustainable growth and long-term profitability.
Ideal Profile
* Minimum 5 years of experience in shop design, visual merchandising, interior design, or a similar retail leadership position.
* Previous IKEA experience or strong familiarity with IKEA concepts and operating standards is preferred.
* Thorough understanding of Communication and Interior Design responsibilities within a retail environment.
* Genuine interest in home furnishings, interior design, retail presentation, and customer-focused spaces.
* Broad knowledge of creative development, store planning, project management, and implementation processes.
* Strong understanding of customer buying behaviour and retail decision-making.
* Awareness of the local competitive environment and emerging home furnishing trends.
* Ability to translate global design concepts into locally relevant retail solutions.
* Proven experience coaching Interior Designers, Visual Merchandisers, or multidisciplinary creative teams.
