Role Context
The Dry Utilities Inspector - Site Works will support the quality and compliance of utility infrastructure by inspecting installation activities, reviewing workmanship, monitoring materials, witnessing tests, and coordinating with contractors and project teams. The position helps ensure that electrical, telecommunications, and related dry utility systems are installed safely, accurately, and in accordance with approved designs, specifications, authority requirements, and project delivery standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspect dry utility installation works including electrical infrastructure, telecommunications services, duct routes, cable corridors, chambers, manholes, and associated site works.
* Check alignment, levels, gradients, spacing, clearances, installation quality, and workmanship against approved drawings and specifications.
* Verify that site activities comply with approved designs, method statements, project specifications, industry standards, and local authority requirements.
* Monitor materials delivered and installed on site to ensure they match approved submittals and required quality standards.
* Witness and verify utility testing activities, including relevant system checks, commissioning support, and inspection documentation.
* Review trenching, excavation, duct laying, bedding, backfilling, reinstatement, and related civil interface works.
* Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, utility service providers, project engineers, and managers to resolve site issues.
* Identify non-conforming works, installation defects, safety concerns, and technical discrepancies, then report findings through proper project channels.
* Support implementation of design changes, field clarifications, corrective actions, and practical solutions during utility construction.
* Ensure utility works are carried out safely and in accordance with approved safety procedures and regulations.
* Monitor environmental practices on site, including waste disposal, housekeeping, stormwater management, and responsible material handling.
* Maintain inspection records, daily reports, site observations, test records, and follow-up documentation for assigned works.
* Support project teams in confirming that completed utility systems are ready for commissioning, handover, and operational use.
Ideal Profile
* Diploma or bachelor\'s degree in Electrical Engineering.
* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in utility systems inspection.
* Strong knowledge of dry utility systems, especially electrical and telecommunications infrastructure.
* Experience inspecting utility works on construction, infrastructure, roads, or development projects.
* Ability to read and interpret utility drawings, shop drawings, specifications, method statements, and inspection documents.
* Familiarity with industry standards and codes such as ASTM, BS, ISO, local regulations, and project-specific requirements.
* Practical experience with trenching, excavation, duct installation, backfilling, testing, and site coordination.
* Good understanding of safety regulations and best practices for utility works in active construction environments.
* Excellent communication and reporting skills with the ability to coordinate with contractors, engineers, inspectors, and utility providers.
* Detail-oriented approach with the ability to identify quality issues and follow up corrective actions.
