Role Context
The Geotechnical Engineer will provide technical supervision and coordination for geotechnical activities across roads and infrastructure utilities projects. The role covers review of investigation reports, monitoring of earthworks and excavation activities, assessment of laboratory and field testing results, and inspection of ground improvement, pile works, foundations, retaining structures, utility corridors, and pavement-related works.
This position supports construction quality, structural safety, and project progress by identifying ground condition risks, reviewing technical submissions, coordinating with discipline engineers, and helping resolve geotechnical issues before they affect cost, schedule, safety, or long-term asset performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Review geotechnical investigation reports, soil data, design recommendations, and project-specific ground condition information.
* Supervise earthworks, excavations, backfilling, dewatering, embankments, shoring systems, and trench-related activities.
* Monitor settlement, lateral movement, groundwater behavior, instrumentation data, and other ground performance indicators.
* Verify that geotechnical works comply with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, quality plans, and authority requirements.
* Review field density tests, compaction records, laboratory reports, material testing results, and related QA/QC documentation.
* Supervise ground improvement works including stone columns, dynamic compaction, soil stabilization, and similar treatment methods.
* Inspect pile installation, pile load tests, PDA tests, pile integrity tests, and foundation-related site activities.
* Coordinate technical matters with bridge, structural, pavement, utilities, and construction supervision teams.
* Review work inspection requests, nonconformance reports, material submittals, method statements, and corrective action proposals.
* Prepare technical reports, inspection notes, geotechnical assessments, and clear recommendations for project leadership.
* Monitor excavation safety, trench stability, dewatering impacts, and environmental compliance during site works.
* Assist in resolving technical issues, site conflicts, and contractual matters connected to geotechnical works.
* Support risk identification for ground behavior, temporary works, excavation support, foundation systems, and utility corridor construction.
* Maintain accurate inspection records, technical logs, test result summaries, and supporting project documentation.
* Contribute to quality control, safety coordination, and timely decision-making across geotechnical construction activities.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
* Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in roads, utilities, bridges, infrastructure, or major civil engineering projects.
* Minimum 5 years of UAE or GCC experience, preferably involving Dubai roads and infrastructure works.
* Strong knowledge of geotechnical construction supervision, earthworks, excavation support, soil improvement, foundations, and pavement-related groundworks.
* Practical understanding of ASTM, AASHTO, BS, EN, Dubai Municipality, and RTA requirements.
* Ability to review soil investigation reports, technical recommendations, laboratory reports, testing data, and geotechnical design information.
* Experience with field density testing, compaction control, pile testing, instrumentation monitoring, dewatering works, and shoring inspections.
* Good knowledge of QA/QC procedures, inspection workflows, work inspection requests, NCR handling, and method statement review.
* Strong analytical ability with practical problem-solving skills for ground-related construction challenges.
* Excellent written and spoken communication skills with the ability to prepare clear technical reports and coordinate with multiple project disciplines.
* Construction supervision experience with the ability to work effectively across site teams, contractors, consultants, and client representatives.
* Familiarity with contractual procedures and technical correspondence related to geotechnical works will be an advantage.
