The Land Surveyor provides independent verification of contractor surveying activities and helps protect the geometric accuracy of infrastructure construction. The position requires detailed review of contract drawings, specifications, authority standards, survey control information, and field measurements before and during construction.
By checking alignments, elevations, coordinates, utility locations, earthworks, structures, and as-built information, the surveyor helps prevent costly construction errors and supports reliable quantity verification, approvals, payment measurement, and project handover.
Key Responsibilities
* Review project contracts, drawings, specifications, survey requirements, and relevant authority standards before field activities commence.
* Establish, verify, and maintain primary horizontal and vertical survey control points across the project site.
* Maintain reference benchmarks, traverse networks, and control data required for construction activities.
* Coordinate with contractor survey teams to verify benchmarks, control points, layouts, and survey information before construction.
* Check setting-out activities for roads, utilities, structures, and other civil infrastructure works.
* Verify horizontal alignments, coordinates, elevations, levels, offsets, and construction tolerances against approved drawings.
* Monitor excavation levels and confirm works follow approved design grades.
* Check backfilling levels and compaction layers to ensure construction remains within specified tolerances.
* Verify the location and installation of wet and dry utilities using approved survey data.
* Check utility chambers, ducts, pipelines, and associated infrastructure for correct horizontal alignment and cover levels.
* Ensure underground utilities and structures are verified before covering or backfilling.
* Conduct topographic surveys and verify the accuracy of field information.
* Perform and review as-built surveys for completed infrastructure.
* Confirm that as-built information is accurate before submission for approval and handover.
* Check contractor survey instruments for appropriate calibration, certification, and maintenance.
* Support the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer in reviewing contractor surveying activities.
* Identify discrepancies between contractor setting-out information and approved design data.
* Report survey deviations, errors, or inconsistencies promptly to the RE or ARE.
* Support preparation of site instructions where corrective survey action is required.
