Role Context
The Land Surveyor will provide field surveying support across infrastructure works involving wet utilities, underground services, and micro tunneling activities. The position requires accurate verification of coordinates, levels, alignments, control points, and setting-out information throughout construction.
Working with engineers, contractors, and survey teams, the Land Surveyor will help ensure underground and surface works are positioned correctly before construction progresses. Reliable survey control is particularly important on micro tunneling and utility projects, where small alignment or level errors can create significant construction and interface problems.
The role also supports measurement, as-built documentation, earthwork verification, and maintenance of complete field records for project control and final handover.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform land surveys and field surveying activities across wet utilities, micro tunneling, and associated infrastructure works.
* Carry out geodetic calculations required for accurate construction positioning and verification.
* Coordinate with clients, contractors, engineers, and survey crews to determine project surveying requirements.
* Complete assigned survey activities within approved schedules, man-hour allocations, and project budgets.
* Check contractor setting-out information before construction activities proceed.
* Verify construction levels, coordinates, alignments, and dimensional requirements.
* Check existing service locations and support measures required to protect utilities during construction.
* Verify survey control points and benchmarks through routine checks.
* Confirm that setting-out works are based on approved project control information.
* Record initial and final construction levels for completed work.
* Verify earthwork cross sections and associated survey measurements.
* Measure completed works where required for progress and quantity verification.
* Prepare sketches and field documentation supporting survey activities.
* Maintain accurate field books, survey calculations, sketches, measurements, and supporting records.
* Assist engineers with verification and checking of shop drawings against field conditions.
* Identify discrepancies between drawings, coordinates, site conditions, and construction setting-out.
* Communicate survey conflicts promptly so corrective action can be taken before work progresses.
* Support preparation of as-built drawings using verified construction survey information.
* Review as-built record drawings for accuracy against completed site conditions.
* Maintain traceable survey records for project documentation and future reference.
* Use Total Station equipment for setting-out and survey verification.
* Operate levels and theodolites for elevation, alignment, and construction control activities.
* Apply appropriate survey terminology and interpret maps, plans, plats, drawings, and technical specifications.
* Perform required calculations associated with levels, coordinates, distances, and survey control.
* Participate actively in project health and safety requirements.
* Coordinate with the Resident Engineer and project safety representatives regarding field survey activities.
* Maintain safe working practices while operating within active construction and infrastructure areas.
