Role Context
The Material Inspector - Site Testing will support construction supervision teams by confirming that materials delivered to site and incorporated into the works comply with approved sources, supplier requirements, project specifications, and testing standards. The role helps maintain construction quality by coordinating closely with Work Inspectors, Senior Work Inspector Materials, Senior Materials Engineer, contractors, and third-party laboratories to ensure sampling, testing, reporting, and acceptance activities are completed efficiently and accurately.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise material sampling and testing activities on site to confirm compliance with project requirements and specifications.
* Witness laboratory tests and in-situ tests performed by contractors or third-party testing agencies.
* Prepare and coordinate material samples for required testing in line with approved procedures.
* Check delivered materials on site to confirm conformance with approved sources, suppliers, material submittals, and project specifications.
* Coordinate with the Work Inspector responsible for the activity to confirm work readiness for testing and discuss areas of concern.
* Perform sampling and testing in a timely and efficient manner to avoid unnecessary delays to contractor operations.
* Support quality control and quality assurance activities related to materials used in roads, bridges, concrete works, utilities, and infrastructure construction.
* Assist the Senior Work Inspector Materials and Senior Materials Engineer in activities related to material review, approval, testing, and acceptance.
* Review working drawings, specifications, inspection and test plans, method statements, and contract drawings to support accurate inspection decisions.
* Verify that materials used on site are approved, properly tested, traceable, and suitable for incorporation into the works.
* Maintain accurate records of material inspections, test results, sampling activities, site observations, and testing coordination.
* Use project-specific engineering, construction, and reporting software to access data, maintain records, and generate required reports.
* Communicate material quality issues, failed tests, suspected non-compliance, and corrective requirements to the project team.
* Coordinate with contractors, laboratory representatives, inspectors, engineers, and supervision staff to resolve material-related concerns.
* Support timely reporting, documentation control, and follow-up of material testing results and acceptance status.
Ideal Profile
* Technical diploma or degree in a related field with minimum 5 years of similar materials inspection experience.
* Civil Engineering graduate with minimum 5 years of experience on roads, bridges, concrete, and utilities projects is also suitable.
* Strong knowledge of material testing, site sampling, laboratory coordination, in-situ testing, and inspection procedures.
* Ability to read working drawings, related specifications, inspection and test plans, method statements, and contract drawings.
* Practical understanding of roads, bridges, concrete works, utilities, and infrastructure material requirements.
* Ability to enforce specifications and contract drawings during material inspection and testing activities.
* Fully computer literate with ability to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and use project-specific engineering or construction software.
* Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with contractors, inspectors, engineers, testing agencies, and project teams.
* Organized, accurate, and quality-focused approach with strong attention to test records, approval status, and material compliance.
* Professional site attitude with the ability to support timely testing while maintaining strict quality standards.
