Role Context
The Material Inspector supports project quality by checking that materials delivered and used on site comply with approved sources, specifications, drawings, and contract requirements. The role helps reduce construction defects, prevent the use of non-compliant materials, and support timely testing by coordinating with work inspectors, contractors, third-party laboratories, senior materials staff, and project teams. By maintaining accurate records and performing testing support efficiently, this position contributes to safer, higher-quality, and more reliable infrastructure delivery in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise site material testing, sampling activities, and related quality checks.
* Witness laboratory tests and in-situ tests carried out by contractors or third-party testing agencies.
* Prepare, handle, and coordinate material samples for testing in accordance with project requirements.
* Coordinate with the Work Inspector responsible for the relevant activity to confirm work readiness for testing.
* Discuss areas of concern with inspection teams, contractors, and senior materials staff when material quality issues are identified.
* Perform sampling and testing support quickly and efficiently to avoid unnecessary delays to contractor operations.
* Check delivered materials on site for compliance with approved sources, suppliers, specifications, and project requirements.
* Verify that materials used on site are suitable for the approved work activity and meet required quality standards.
* Support quality control and quality assurance activities related to roads, bridges, concrete, utilities, and civil infrastructure works.
* Assist the Senior Work Inspector for Materials and Senior Materials Engineer with review, approval, testing, and acceptance of materials.
* Read and apply working drawings, technical specifications, inspection and test plans, and method statements during site inspection.
* Enforce project specifications and contract drawings within the limits of the inspection role.
* Record inspection observations, test witnessing details, material checks, approvals, and non-compliance concerns accurately.
* Use computer systems and project software to access data, maintain records, and generate inspection or material testing reports.
* Communicate clearly with project team members, contractors, inspectors, and materials engineers regarding testing status and site quality concerns.
* Report non-conforming materials or testing issues for further review and corrective action.
* Support timely approval workflow for materials required for ongoing construction activities.
* Help maintain a disciplined inspection process that protects construction quality and supports project progress.
Ideal Profile
* Technical diploma or degree in a related field with minimum 5 years of experience in similar material inspection work.
* Civil Engineering graduate with minimum 3 years of experience on roads, bridges, concrete, utilities, or civil infrastructure projects may also be considered.
* Practical experience in site material inspection, sampling, laboratory test witnessing, in-situ testing, and material acceptance procedures.
* Ability to read working drawings, specifications, inspection and test plans, and method statements.
* Capable of enforcing project specifications, approved drawings, and contract requirements during site material inspection.
* Familiarity with quality control and quality assurance procedures on infrastructure construction projects.
* Computer literate with ability to access project data, maintain records, prepare reports, and use relevant engineering or construction software.
* Good written and oral communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with project teams, contractors, inspectors, and testing agencies.
* Detail-oriented approach to material verification, sample preparation, test witnessing, and documentation.
* Ability to work efficiently on active construction sites while supporting contractor progress and maintaining quality compliance.
