Role Context
The Mechanical Inspector - Construction Quality will work closely with Discipline Engineers, Resident Engineers, Assistant Resident Engineers, contractors, and site supervision teams to monitor mechanical construction activities across assigned project areas. The role supports quality control, technical compliance, safety performance, inspection documentation, and corrective action follow-up. By checking mechanical installations, materials, workmanship, testing records, and site execution methods, the inspector helps reduce rework, protect project quality, and maintain reliable construction progress.
Key Responsibilities
* Read, understand, and apply contract documents, approved mechanical drawings, technical specifications, method statements, quality procedures, and health and safety requirements.
* Conduct site inspections and surveillance of mechanical construction works to verify compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, codes, and contract standards.
* Inspect mechanical installations, HVAC works, piping systems, equipment placement, supports, connections, insulation, testing activities, and related construction works.
* Monitor contractor manpower, equipment, tools, material usage, daily activities, work locations, and construction methods for accurate project reporting.
* Perform site supervision duties as directed by the Resident Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, or assigned Discipline Engineer.
* Document contractor activities in assigned areas, including resources, work sequence, equipment used, site conditions, activity purpose, and construction methods.
* Track material deliveries and check that site materials are consistent with approved submittals, project requirements, and inspection procedures.
* Implement site instructions issued by project leadership and follow up to confirm that required actions are completed properly.
* Apply quality control procedures and project quality assurance protocols during mechanical inspections, surveillance, testing, and documentation.
* Prepare site measurements, inspection notes, technical records, survey-related checks, and supporting documentation as required.
* Monitor conformance with quality, performance, code, and workmanship requirements through structured inspection and daily site review.
* Identify mechanical non-conformances, unsafe practices, HSE violations, poor workmanship, and deviations from approved procedures.
* Raise observations, inspection comments, and quality concerns to engineers and project leadership for timely corrective action.
* Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, observations, corrective actions, site instructions, material checks, and contractor progress.
* Support inspection requests, testing activities, QA/QC records, and closeout documentation related to mechanical construction works.
* Coordinate with contractors, engineers, quality teams, safety teams, and other disciplines to resolve site issues and avoid delays or interface clashes.
* Help maintain a safe working environment by reporting risks linked to mechanical installation, lifting, access, tools, equipment, and active construction zones.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related mechanical discipline.
* Minimum 8 years of overall experience in construction supervision and mechanical project inspection.
* Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the United Arab Emirates.
* Proven experience inspecting mechanical construction projects and mechanical building or infrastructure systems.
* Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, specifications, contract documents, construction standards, and site quality requirements.
* Familiarity with HVAC systems, piping, mechanical equipment, installation methods, testing procedures, and inspection techniques.
* Experience working with consultancy firms on large-scale infrastructure, transportation, or mechanical construction projects.
* Good knowledge of quality management systems, ISO standards, QA/QC procedures, and inspection documentation.
* Solid understanding of construction health and safety regulations, site safety practices, and hazard reporting.
* Strong technical reporting ability with clear documentation, accurate records, and organized inspection files.
* Ability to work effectively in multicultural project teams with engineers, contractors, inspectors, and client representatives.
* High attention to detail, practical site judgment, and the confidence to report non-compliant work before it affects project quality.
