Role Summary
Planning Engineer in Dubai will support AECOM’s project management and construction supervision teams by developing, reviewing, analyzing, and monitoring project schedules for major civil engineering and infrastructure works. This role requires strong planning capability, contractor programme review experience, critical path analysis, progress reporting, delay monitoring, and the ability to support claims, variations, and dispute resolution processes.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, review, and analyze project schedules with proper understanding of scope, quantities, sequencing, and construction methodology.
* Review and monitor the contractor’s baseline programme, procurement schedules, construction plans, subcontractor schedules, and utility-related activities.
* Work closely with contractor planning teams to track project progress and recommend programme updates, corrective actions, or recovery plans where needed.
* Monitor actual site progress against the approved programme and report schedule deviations to the Senior Resident Engineer.
* Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, including project updates, charts, graphs, look-ahead schedules, and critical path analysis.
* Identify project risks, delays, constraints, and opportunities, then recommend practical mitigation measures to maintain the project schedule.
* Conduct site visits and coordinate with supervision teams to validate actual progress and ensure accurate planning reports.
* Attend planning workshops, progress meetings, and coordination sessions to assess real-time progress and resolve scheduling issues.
* Support the Senior Quantity Surveyor in analyzing programme-related impacts of variations, additional works, and scope changes.
* Maintain detailed planning records to support evaluation of claims, variations, delay events, and dispute resolution processes.
* Assist the PMC team in negotiations, arbitration, and other dispute resolution matters related to project delays or planning issues.
* Coordinate with engineers, quantity surveyors, contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to ensure planning information is accurate and updated.
* Track key milestones, procurement activities, construction dependencies, and critical activities to support timely project delivery.
* Provide planning input for management reports, client updates, project controls reviews, and construction progress assessments.
Candidate Requirements
* Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related engineering discipline.
* Strong experience in planning, scheduling, and project controls for civil engineering, infrastructure, roads, bridges, utilities, or construction projects.
* Experience reviewing contractor baseline programmes, procurement schedules, construction programmes, recovery schedules, and progress updates.
* Strong knowledge of critical path method, delay analysis, progress measurement, milestone tracking, and schedule variance reporting.
* Ability to prepare weekly and monthly progress reports with charts, graphs, programme narratives, and critical path updates.
* Experience supporting claims, variations, additional works assessments, dispute resolution, negotiations, or arbitration matters is preferred.
* Practical knowledge of construction sequencing, site progress validation, subcontractor coordination, and utility-related planning activities.
* Proficiency in planning software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and related project controls tools.
* Good understanding of construction contracts, project documentation, programme records, and delay event tracking.
* Ability to coordinate with PMC teams, Resident Engineers, Senior Quantity Surveyors, contractors, supervision teams, and project stakeholders.
* Strong analytical, reporting, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
* UAE or Middle East infrastructure project experience is preferred.
