Role Context
The Road Structures Specialist will assist the Resident Engineer in supervising construction and maintenance works for bridges, tunnels, viaducts, and associated structural assets. The role involves technical review, site direction, structural inspection coordination, condition evaluation, progress reporting, and handover support.
This position has a direct impact on the safety, serviceability, and long-term performance of Dubai’s road infrastructure. The specialist will help identify deterioration causes, recommend suitable preventive or corrective treatments, review maintenance methods, and ensure structural works are completed to approved standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Report to the Resident Engineer and support supervision of construction and maintenance works for bridges, viaducts, tunnels, and associated structures.
* Coordinate closely with high-profile clients to maintain clear, timely, and professional communication throughout the project.
* Work with engineers, inspectors, surveyors, QAQC teams, and construction supervision staff to ensure smooth delivery of structural maintenance activities.
* Review shop drawings, design proposals, method statements, material submittals, technical correspondence, and related bridge or tunnel documentation.
* Prepare technical comments, recommendations, and draft replies for review and approval by the Resident Engineer.
* Monitor site activities and conduct inspections with structural engineers and quality teams to verify compliance with approved requirements.
* Direct, assist, and monitor the performance of engineers, inspectors, surveyors, and related site personnel.
* Convene and chair coordination meetings with service authorities, contractors, subcontractors, and other parties connected to structural works.
* Provide on-site direction and support the Resident Engineer in issuing site instructions related to bridges, tunnels, and associated infrastructure.
* Ensure all records, site documentation, inspection reports, and progress data are accurate, complete, and properly maintained.
* Support preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports for project leadership and client review.
* Oversee implementation of project safety procedures and help ensure safety goals are achieved on site.
* Participate positively in health and safety matters as required by the Resident Engineer and project safety representatives.
* Verify correctness and completeness of as-built drawings within the assigned structural scope.
* Maintain necessary project records and lead handover coordination for structural works with relevant service authorities.
* Assist the contractor in obtaining final clearances required for successful project close-out.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
* Minimum 20 years of experience in design and construction supervision of bridges and tunnels.
* Proven experience in operation and maintenance of bridges, tunnels, and major road structures.
* Strong background in bridge engineering, including design, construction, inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation works.
* Experience in bridge and tunnel inspection, condition evaluation, deterioration assessment, and selection of preventive, corrective, rehabilitation, or reconstruction actions.
* Familiarity with bridge maintenance management systems and infrastructure asset maintenance procedures.
* Ability to review and justify method statements, material selections, laboratory reports, technical reports, and project compliance documents.
* Strong working knowledge of engineering and construction-related processes, site supervision practices, and structural maintenance workflows.
* Familiarity with local and international design codes, industry practices, and relevant authority requirements.
* Experience preparing both detailed technical reports and high-level management reports.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic and English, with strong technical writing capability.
* Proficiency in PC software packages commonly used for structural engineering design, maintenance, reporting, and construction supervision.
* GCC infrastructure experience, especially in civil supervision and maintenance of bridges and tunnels, will be preferred.
* UAE or GCC engineering consultancy experience will be an advantage.
* Ability to use advanced AI technology to assess inspection and maintenance data, maintain records, analyze trends, and generate reports.
