Role Context
The Senior BIM-CAD Technician will provide specialist digital design support across multidisciplinary infrastructure projects, with particular emphasis on wet and dry utilities and utility pipe network modelling.
Working alongside the BIM-CAD Manager, BIM Lead, Design Leads, and engineers, the technician will turn engineering inputs into accurate models and drawings while coordinating information between disciplines. A major part of the role involves identifying clashes, resolving model issues, maintaining appropriate LOD requirements, and preparing reliable documentation for client and stakeholder submissions.
Strong model coordination at this stage of infrastructure delivery can reduce design conflicts, limit costly revisions, and provide engineering and construction teams with more dependable project information.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and modify BIM models and CAD drawings for wet and dry utility infrastructure.
* Work closely with the BIM-CAD Manager and Design Leads to maintain compliance with project procedures and delivery requirements.
* Coordinate design inputs between CAD, BIM, and engineering disciplines.
* Identify model clashes, missing information, and coordination issues before formal submissions.
* Support clash detection, clash rendition, issue tracking, and resolution across multidisciplinary models.
* Prepare engineering layouts, basic arrangements, flow sheets, assemblies, isometrics, and component details.
* Convert engineering information and preliminary sketches into accurate technical drawings.
* Use AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D for infrastructure design documentation and model development.
* Apply Navisworks for model coordination, clash detection, and design review.
* Manage BIM-related activities from project startup through design development and final completion.
* Maintain appropriate Level of Development requirements during each project stage.
* Create parametric and non-parametric model families and other required BIM content.
* Produce schedules and extract quantities directly from coordinated models.
* Review drawings for readability, presentation, technical consistency, and adherence to established standards.
* Apply project QA-QC procedures to identify errors before drawings and models progress to submission.
* Maintain accurate records of design modifications, drawing revisions, and model updates.
* Organize digital archives so completed models, drawings, and related documentation remain accessible and traceable.
* Work within Common Data Environment workflows for controlled model production and information exchange.
* Support Autodesk Forma and Bentley ProjectWise environments for project information management.
* Coordinate existing and proposed utility information according to relevant DEWA, Dubai Municipality, and RTA requirements.
* Prepare infrastructure utility layouts, routing plans, right-of-way information, and cross sections where required.
* Apply ISO 19650 principles and project-specific BIM requirements where applicable.
* Communicate with engineers, Team Leads, and other disciplines to resolve design discrepancies efficiently.
* Customize CAD tools and working methods where appropriate to streamline repetitive design activities and improve productivity.
* Support BIM knowledge sharing and technical development within the wider project team.
* Manage multiple drawing packages and project priorities while maintaining required submission deadlines.
Ideal Profile
Candidates should hold a bachelor\'s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering.
A minimum of 10 years of CAD drafting and BIM experience within the UAE or wider Middle East and Africa region is required, specifically involving wet and dry utilities projects.
At least three years of practical Utility Pipe Network Modelling experience is required.
Candidates must have strong working experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and Navisworks. Knowledge of MicroStation is preferred.
Advanced understanding of Common Data Environment usage and management is important, particularly for controlled model production using Autodesk Forma and Bentley ProjectWise.
Candidates should understand BIM processes throughout the complete project lifecycle and have strong knowledge of LOD requirements.
Practical familiarity with DEWA, Dubai Municipality, and RTA standards, together with experience managing existing utility information, is important for infrastructure work in Dubai.
Experience with ISO 19650, clash detection, issue management, model-based design reviews, ROW requirements, routing plans, and infrastructure cross sections is preferred.
