Role Context
The
Senior BIM-CAD Technician will support complex infrastructure design packages by developing accurate drawings and coordinated digital models for wet and dry utility systems. The role requires close interaction with BIM management, Design Leads, engineers, and multiple CAD disciplines to keep project information consistent and technically aligned.
A key part of the position is identifying clashes and coordination issues before they affect submissions or construction. The technician will also maintain model quality, control drawing revisions, manage Common Data Environment workflows, and support quantity extraction and scheduling from BIM models.
Strong digital coordination will help reduce rework, improve submission quality, and ensure infrastructure designs remain aligned with authority requirements and project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, modify, and manage BIM models and CAD drawings for infrastructure and utility projects.
* Coordinate closely with CAD-BIM Managers, BIM Leads, Design Leads, and engineers throughout project delivery.
* Convert sketches, engineering data, and design information into accurate layouts and technical drawings.
* Prepare arrangements, assemblies, flow sheets, isometrics, utility layouts, and component details.
* Coordinate inputs from different disciplines and highlight design conflicts, missing information, and potential clashes.
* Perform clash detection and support issue resolution before models progress to formal submission.
* Maintain BIM activities from project startup through design development, coordination, and project completion.
* Apply appropriate LOD requirements to models according to project stage and delivery standards.
* Review drawings for technical clarity, presentation quality, and compliance with approved drafting procedures.
* Follow project QA-QC processes to identify errors before drawings and models are issued.
* Create parametric and non-parametric model families to support project requirements.
* Generate model schedules and perform quantity extraction where required.
* Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, drawing revisions, and project updates.
* Organize digital archives of completed drawings, models, and supporting documentation.
* Work within Common Data Environment platforms for controlled model production and information exchange.
* Use Autodesk Forma and Bentley ProjectWise to support project data management and coordination.
* Coordinate with technical teams to resolve drawing discrepancies and modelling issues.
* Support wet and dry utility model preparation, including Utility Pipe Network Modelling.
* Apply relevant DEWA, Dubai Municipality, and RTA standards to infrastructure design information.
* Support routing plan development, right-of-way coordination, and preparation of infrastructure cross sections.
* Follow ISO 19650 principles where required by project information management procedures.
* Customize CAD tools and workflows where practical to improve productivity and drawing consistency.
* Contribute to BIM knowledge sharing and provide technical support within the project team.
* Manage several design deliverables simultaneously while maintaining submission schedules.
Ideal Profile
Candidates should hold a bachelor\'s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering.
A minimum of 10 years of CAD drafting and BIM experience within the UAE or wider Middle East and Africa region is required.
Applicants should have substantial experience working on wet and dry utility infrastructure projects, including at least three years of Utility Pipe Network Modelling.
Strong practical experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and Navisworks is required. MicroStation knowledge is preferred.
Candidates should have advanced understanding of Common Data Environment workflows, particularly Autodesk Forma and Bentley ProjectWise.
A strong understanding of BIM processes and LOD requirements is essential.
Knowledge of DEWA, Dubai Municipality, and RTA requirements, together with experience coordinating existing utilities, will be highly valuable.
Experience with ISO 19650, clash detection, issue management, model-based design reviews, ROW coordination, routing plans, and infrastructure cross sections is preferred.
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills are required.
