Role Context
The Senior BIM-CAD Technician will provide advanced modelling and drafting support for infrastructure projects involving wet and dry utility networks. The position requires close coordination with BIM management, Design Leads, engineers, and multidisciplinary technical teams throughout design development and submission stages.
A major responsibility will be maintaining reliable model coordination. The technician will identify design conflicts, support clash resolution, control model revisions, and ensure drawings remain aligned with approved engineering information and project standards.
The role also supports structured digital delivery through CDE platforms, LOD management, quantity extraction, model scheduling, and disciplined documentation. Strong execution helps prevent downstream construction conflicts and improves the overall quality of infrastructure design packages.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and maintain BIM models and CAD drawings for wet and dry utility infrastructure.
* Coordinate with BIM-CAD Managers, Design Leads, BIM Leads, and engineers to deliver assigned project packages.
* Convert preliminary engineering information, sketches, and design inputs into detailed technical drawings.
* Develop layouts, arrangements, assemblies, flow sheets, isometrics, and infrastructure component details.
* Coordinate design information across multiple disciplines and identify conflicting inputs before submission.
* Perform model reviews and support systematic clash detection and resolution.
* Track coordination issues and ensure required changes are reflected in subsequent model and drawing revisions.
* Manage BIM production activities from project mobilization through final design delivery.
* Apply required Level of Development standards according to project stage.
* Review drawings for presentation, readability, technical consistency, and compliance with drafting standards.
* Follow QA-QC procedures to reduce errors and prevent avoidable design revisions.
* Develop project-specific parametric and non-parametric BIM families.
* Generate schedules and extract quantities directly from coordinated models.
* Maintain clear records of design amendments, drawing revisions, and model updates.
* Organize digital project files and completed documentation for efficient retrieval and audit purposes.
* Work within Common Data Environment procedures for controlled information exchange.
* Use Autodesk Forma and Bentley ProjectWise for model production and project information management.
* Support Utility Pipe Network Modelling for infrastructure design packages.
* Coordinate existing utility information with proposed infrastructure layouts.
* Apply relevant DEWA, Dubai Municipality, and RTA standards to project deliverables.
* Prepare or support routing plans, ROW layouts, and utility cross sections.
* Apply ISO 19650 principles where specified by project BIM requirements.
* Customize CAD tools and workflows where this can improve efficiency or consistency.
* Communicate technical discrepancies clearly to engineers and discipline leads.
* Support knowledge sharing and BIM capability development within project teams.
* Manage multiple priorities while maintaining required project submission schedules.
Ideal Profile
Candidates should hold a bachelor\'s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering.
At least 10 years of CAD drafting and BIM experience gained within the UAE or wider Middle East and Africa region is required.
The successful candidate should have substantial experience with wet and dry utility infrastructure and a minimum of three years of Utility Pipe Network Modelling experience.
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and Navisworks is essential. Practical knowledge of MicroStation is preferred.
Candidates should demonstrate advanced understanding of Common Data Environment workflows, including Autodesk Forma and Bentley ProjectWise.
Strong knowledge of BIM processes and Level of Development requirements is required.
Experience working with DEWA, Dubai Municipality, and RTA requirements is highly valuable, particularly where projects involve existing utility coordination.
Knowledge of ISO 19650, clash detection, issue management, model-based reviews, ROW coordination, routing plans, and cross-section preparation will strengthen suitability for the position.
