Role Context
The Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Marine will support the delivery of major marine and infrastructure projects by managing geotechnical site activities, supervising ground improvement subcontractors, interpreting subsurface data, preparing technical specifications, reviewing geotechnical reports, and coordinating instrumentation and monitoring requirements. The position helps project teams reduce ground risk, improve constructability, confirm soil and rock design parameters, and maintain technical control across reclamation, dredging, offshore, marine, and ground improvement works.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise ground improvement works on site and manage the performance of different ground improvement subcontractors.
* Oversee earthworks, slope stabilization, marine ground improvement, reclamation-related activities, and geotechnical construction interfaces.
* Prepare project specifications for geotechnical studies, geophysical studies, site investigations, testing requirements, and construction support activities.
* Evaluate subsurface conditions by reviewing bore logs, laboratory test results, field investigation data, and geotechnical records.
* Develop generalized soil profiles and recommend appropriate soil and rock design parameters for engineering use.
* Prepare and review geotechnical factual reports, geotechnical interpretative reports, and supporting technical documentation.
* Complete engineering assignments including drawings, specifications, procurement documents, construction materials, and design information using CAE or CAD tools where applicable.
* Prepare material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, designs, specifications, data sheets, and construction documents.
* Provide technical guidance to CAD designers, drafters, designers, and junior engineers working on the same project.
* Prepare detailed requisitions for equipment, materials, investigation services, monitoring systems, and geotechnical construction support needs.
* Specify and interpret geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring systems, including layout planning and monitoring requirements.
* Calculate and define Alert, Alarm, and Action values for instrumentation monitoring and site risk control.
* Review monitoring outputs and coordinate with project teams when readings indicate potential geotechnical movement, settlement, or construction risk.
* Support dredging, offshore, marine, reclamation, and infrastructure works by providing practical geotechnical advice during field execution.
* Maintain professional awareness of current geotechnical technologies, industry practices, recent applications, and technical developments.
* Recommend and prepare technical papers or specialist inputs where required.
* Travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site locations when project requirements demand.
* Perform other technical and site-related responsibilities associated with the role as appropriate.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
* Minimum 10 years of site experience as a geotechnical engineer on major marine or infrastructure projects.
* Strong experience with dredging, offshore works, marine construction, reclamation, and ground improvement.
* Practical knowledge of earthworks, slope stabilization, marine ground treatment, geotechnical instrumentation, monitoring systems, and construction-stage geotechnical control.
* Ability to evaluate bore log data, laboratory results, field data, and subsurface conditions to support reliable soil and rock parameter development.
* Experience preparing and reviewing geotechnical factual reports, interpretative reports, specifications, construction documents, and technical submissions.
* Strong familiarity with industry practices, regulations, site investigation methods, geophysical studies, and geotechnical design support requirements.
* Thorough knowledge of current technology and recent geotechnical applications used in marine and infrastructure environments.
* Potential to perform in a lead capacity with the ability to guide junior engineers, CAD teams, designers, and site staff.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to explain technical findings clearly to project teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
* Practical problem-solving mindset with the ability to respond to site constraints, ground risks, monitoring results, and construction challenges.
* Willingness to travel or relocate to client, supplier, or construction site locations when required by project needs.
