Role Context
The Senior Project Manager - Water Design will lead planning, coordination, delivery control, stakeholder engagement, and commercial management for water and wastewater infrastructure design projects. Reporting to the Project Director or Program Manager, the role helps ensure that scope, schedules, budgets, resources, deliverables, quality requirements, and contractual obligations are managed with discipline. The position directly supports successful project outcomes by coordinating internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, procurement activities, and client requirements across a demanding infrastructure design environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure design projects from project setup through successful completion.
* Develop project scope, budgets, schedules, resource plans, implementation strategies, delivery milestones, and reporting structures.
* Act as the primary client point of contact, maintaining strong communication and ensuring project requirements, expectations, and deliverables are clearly understood and met.
* Monitor project performance, resources, costs, schedules, risks, and delivery constraints, then implement corrective actions when issues arise.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, procurement personnel, and internal support groups.
* Lead project staffing, workload planning, team development, performance management, and mentoring of direct reports.
* Ensure compliance with quality, safety, security, contractual, commercial, and company procedural requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
* Manage project documentation, reporting, correspondence, meeting records, change control, contract variations, and approval tracking.
* Lead negotiation and coordination of scope changes with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
* Chair project meetings, present progress updates, track action items, and maintain accurate records of project activities and performance.
* Review bid documents and support procurement, tendering, technical evaluation, and consultant or subcontractor engagement activities when required.
* Manage competing priorities across design packages, authority requirements, client deliverables, technical reviews, and commercial matters.
* Support resolution of design, schedule, budget, resource, and stakeholder issues through practical analysis and sound decision-making.
* Maintain clear project governance and ensure senior stakeholders receive accurate information on progress, risks, cost position, and critical decisions.
* Promote a delivery culture focused on safety, quality, collaboration, accountability, and client satisfaction.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s degree in Civil Engineering.
* Minimum 18 years of relevant experience in water and wastewater infrastructure design projects.
* Minimum 5 years of Senior Project Manager experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Abu Dhabi experience is a must-have requirement for this role.
* Proven experience delivering complex infrastructure design projects within budget and schedule constraints.
* Strong knowledge of project management principles, contract administration, commercial management, project governance, and delivery controls.
* Solid understanding of water infrastructure, wastewater networks, pumping systems, treatment-related infrastructure, utilities interfaces, and authority-driven design delivery.
* Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, client-facing communication, and leadership skills.
* Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, reporting, and risk management capability.
* Experience delivering major infrastructure projects in the UAE or GCC region is preferred.
* Familiarity with local authority requirements, approvals, design submissions, and infrastructure permitting processes is preferred.
* Professional project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent is preferred.
* Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation is an advantage.
* Experience managing multidisciplinary consultants and international project teams is an advantage.
