Role Summary
Senior SHE Advisor Dubai will support AECOM’s infrastructure and engineering operations by developing, implementing, and improving safety, health, and environmental programs that protect employees, contractors, visitors, and project stakeholders. This role requires a proactive SHE professional with strong knowledge of UAE regulations, ISO 14000 and ISO 14001 standards, risk management, safety audits, incident investigation, environmental management, and contractor safety coordination.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, implement, and maintain integrated safety, health, and environmental programs aligned with business objectives, project needs, and regulatory requirements.
* Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety analysis to evaluate unsafe conditions, operational risks, and workplace practices.
* Design and oversee hazard control measures, preventive programs, and practical safety systems that reduce workplace risks.
* Lead investigations for accidents, near misses, incidents, and safety violations, including root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations.
* Perform regular safety audits and inspections across worksites, facilities, activities, and operational processes.
* Document audit findings, communicate required corrective actions, and follow up with responsible teams until closure.
* Develop and deliver safety inductions, training programs, toolbox talks, awareness sessions, and contractor safety briefings.
* Monitor safety performance metrics, key performance indicators, incident trends, and monthly SHE statistics.
* Prepare monthly and periodic safety, health, and environmental reports for management review.
* Ensure compliance with ISO 14000, ISO 14001, UAE regulations, and applicable federal and local requirements.
* Work with engineering, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and operations teams to integrate SHE requirements into project planning and execution.
* Review method statements, activity hazard analyses, risk assessments, and permit-to-work procedures.
* Maintain and verify the proper inspection, calibration, operation, and readiness of safety equipment and safety systems.
* Lead SHE meetings with employees, contractors, supervisors, and external stakeholders to promote open communication and safety improvement.
* Develop environmental management initiatives covering waste disposal, pollution control, recycling, and resource conservation.
* Represent management during regulatory inspections, external audits, and authority visits.
* Track changes in safety regulations, environmental requirements, industry practices, and technology-based SHE improvements.
* Promote an inclusive safety culture that encourages employees and contractors to identify hazards and report concerns.
* Mentor junior safety personnel and support the professional development of SHE team members.
* Prepare comprehensive SHE plans using historical performance data, lessons learned, risk trends, and forward-looking project analysis.
* Support additional safety, health, and environmental duties required for operational excellence.
Candidate Requirements
* Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Strong experience in safety, health, and environmental management within infrastructure, construction, engineering, or consulting environments.
* Practical knowledge of UAE safety regulations, local authority requirements, environmental compliance, and workplace safety standards.
* Experience with ISO 14000, ISO 14001, SHE management systems, audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.
* Strong capability in hazard identification, risk assessment, method statement review, permit-to-work review, and activity hazard analysis.
* Experience leading incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action plans, and preventive action follow-up.
* Ability to prepare SHE plans, safety reports, audit records, training materials, inspection findings, and performance dashboards.
* Knowledge of environmental management practices including waste disposal, recycling, pollution control, and resource conservation.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver safety training and influence employees, contractors, and project stakeholders.
* Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, quality, operations, compliance, and project delivery functions.
* Strong leadership, mentoring, documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
* Professional SHE certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, or equivalent are preferred.
