Role Context
The Structural Engineer - Roads Bridges will assist the Resident Engineer in reviewing design and construction activities related to structural works on roads, bridges, viaducts, and marine infrastructure. The role supports project quality, safety, progress monitoring, technical coordination, and handover readiness by supervising site activities, reviewing submissions, guiding inspectors and surveyors, coordinating with contractors and authorities, and ensuring structural works comply with approved specifications and international engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Report to the Resident Engineer and assist in supervising construction activities for bridges, viaducts, marine structures, and associated structural works.
* Coordinate daily activities with engineers, inspectors, surveyors, contractors, sub-consultants, and members of the construction supervision team.
* Review shop drawings, design proposals, method statements, technical submissions, correspondence, and bridge-related documentation.
* Prepare draft replies and technical comments for Resident Engineer review.
* Coordinate with project design engineers to resolve structural, construction, and technical issues.
* Maintain daily diaries, site records, inspection logs, and daily reports prepared by inspectors.
* Coordinate with contractor engineers on work schedules, resource planning, site sequencing, and construction progress.
* Attend project coordination meetings and liaise with clients, project teams, contractors, sub-consultants, regulatory bodies, and environmental approval agencies.
* Direct, assist, and monitor the work performance of inspectors and surveyors assigned to structural activities.
* Convene and chair special meetings with service authorities, contractors, subcontractors, and other parties related to structural works.
* Ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper control of construction records, inspection reports, and technical documentation.
* Monitor implementation of project safety procedures and support achievement of site health and safety goals.
* Prepare and assist in weekly and monthly progress reports covering structural work progress, issues, risks, and completed activities.
* Participate actively in health and safety matters at site under the direction of the Resident Engineer and project safety representatives.
* Provide site direction and assist the Resident Engineer in issuing site instructions related to structural and associated works.
* Check, measure, and record completed works, then support progress comparison against the approved programme.
* Verify the correctness and completeness of as-built drawings for structural works.
* Maintain handover records and support final clearance from relevant service authorities for completed structural works.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited university is required.
* Minimum 15 years of experience in construction supervision or operation and maintenance of bridges in marine environments.
* Strong inspection experience in marine structures, steel sheet piles, steel casing, piles, piers, steel structures, timber piles, concrete pile structures, floating structures, and waterfront facilities.
* Experience reviewing and justifying material submissions, laboratory reports, technical reports, acceptance sampling, and testing results.
* Strong knowledge of project specifications, quality control processes, inspection procedures, and construction compliance requirements.
* Adequate knowledge of European Codes and American Codes.
* Fully computer literate with the ability to use technology for data access, record maintenance, reporting, and project documentation.
* Ability to use project-specific engineering and construction software effectively.
* Strong understanding of bridge construction, structural supervision, marine environment challenges, and infrastructure project delivery.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
* Professional approach to contractor coordination, authority liaison, safety compliance, and site problem solving.
