Role Context
The Structural Inspector - Bridges will support the Structure Assistant Resident Engineer by inspecting and documenting structural construction activities across bridges, MSE walls, pump station buildings, steel structures, and related project works. The role helps protect construction quality by checking work against approved shop drawings, project specifications, quality control procedures, health and safety requirements, and environmental controls while maintaining accurate records for inspection, reporting, and handover.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist the Structure Assistant Resident Engineer with site duties related to bridges, MSE walls, pump station buildings, structural works, tunnel interfaces, and steel structures.
* Inspect structural construction activities against approved shop drawings, contract documents, project specifications, and applicable quality requirements.
* Attend Work Inspection Requests submitted by the contractor and take timely inspection action based on project procedures.
* Maintain a detailed daily diary covering work activities, issues, approvals, rejections, working hours, labour, equipment, site conditions, and key observations.
* Monitor workmanship quality and verify that structural works are completed in line with approved construction methods and specifications.
* Assess site safety, health, and environmental conditions during daily inspections and report concerns through proper project channels.
* Prepare surveillance reports for deficiencies, poor workmanship, incomplete works, unsafe practices, or failure to follow instructions.
* Support the preparation and follow-up of Site Observation Reports or Non-Conformance Reports when construction activities do not meet required standards.
* Provide technical input to help resolve structural inspection issues, site coordination concerns, and discipline-related construction problems.
* Prepare and complete required inspection documentation before and after site inspections.
* Maintain complete records related to execution of structural works, inspection results, quality observations, and corrective actions.
* Ensure project quality control procedures are followed during construction supervision activities and provide feedback for improvement where needed.
* Monitor site progress and communicate structural work status regularly to the supervision team.
* Coordinate with contractors, inspectors, engineers, and project team members to support smooth construction progress and timely issue resolution.
* Check that approved works are properly documented and ready for future handover requirements.
* Support successful project handover by maintaining accurate inspection records, completed documentation, and verified work status.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institute to the approval of the Engineer.
* Minimum 5 years of civil construction experience on major structural construction projects.
* Practical experience with bridges, pump station buildings, MSE walls, steel structures, or similar structural infrastructure works.
* GCC experience is an advantage.
* Good understanding of construction specifications, shop drawings, inspection procedures, quality control processes, and site supervision requirements.
* Ability to comprehend and interpret construction specifications and apply them during daily inspection activities.
* Strong knowledge of construction-related processes relevant to structural and bridge works.
* Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with contractors, engineers, inspectors, and project teams.
* Fully computer literate with the ability to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and use project-specific engineering or construction software.
* Organized and detail-oriented approach with the ability to maintain accurate diaries, inspection records, reports, and project documentation.
* Safety-conscious mindset with the ability to identify site risks, quality issues, and non-compliant works in a timely manner.
