Role Context
The Structural Inspector will supervise and inspect structural works related to the project, including construction, demolition, quality verification, site documentation, material compliance, quantity checking, and safety monitoring. The role contributes directly to structural integrity, construction quality, contract compliance, and smooth project progress.
This position is important for maintaining reliable site records, confirming installed quantities, assisting with quality control procedures, coordinating with testing and surveying subconsultants, and supporting the resolution of nonconformance or site-related issues.
Core Duties
* Conduct inspections to verify that structural works are completed in accordance with approved plans, contract specifications, and project requirements.
* Inspect activities related to demolition and construction of structural elements such as reservoirs, lifting stations, landscape structures, lagoons, swimming pools, substations, retaining walls, tunnels, bridges, and related civil works.
* Confirm that only approved materials are used and incorporated into the works.
* Maintain project files, quantity calculations, daily diaries, inspection records, and required site documentation.
* Prepare daily reports and other contract-related documentation with accuracy and clarity.
* Review and file Certificates of Compliance, Safety Data Sheets, inspection tags, and relevant material information.
* Perform labor compliance interviews where required and maintain as-built records.
* Identify potential conflicts, site issues, construction problems, and possible solutions, then advise the supervisor accordingly.
* Report installed quantities to support payment applications and change order verification.
* Coordinate with subconsultants for surveying, material testing, and related inspection support.
* Assist in developing job safety practices, quality control procedures, and inspection reports.
* Respond to emergency call backs at the project site when required.
* Document nonconformance issues and assist in reviewing suitable corrective actions.
* Provide technical guidance to junior inspectors when needed.
* Perform all inspection duties with strong awareness of site safety and public safety.
* Carry out additional responsibilities related to the position as assigned by project leadership.
Ideal Profile
* Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent qualification.
* Minimum 5 years of experience as a Structural Inspector within the region.
* Good knowledge of public works contracts, construction processes, site inspection methods, and structural work requirements.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, specifications, graphs, charts, and construction documents.
* Practical understanding of engineering calculations, quantity verification, progress payment estimates, and extra work bills.
* Experience in preparing daily diaries, inspection reports, quantity records, and project documentation.
* Knowledge of basic computer applications including Microsoft Office, project management software, and internet-based research tools.
* Ability to understand and follow client requirements, project standards, contract conditions, and industry procedures.
* Awareness of scheduling, site coordination, construction sequencing, and safe work planning.
* Ability to recognize hazardous work conditions and take appropriate action to reduce risk.
* Strong written and verbal English communication skills with good grammar and report-writing ability.
* Capable of following written and verbal instructions while working effectively in a team-based project environment.
* Authority certifications, related approvals, HSE training, and construction safety training such as OSHA 10 hours will be an advantage.
