Role Context
The Tunnel Engineer will provide specialist survey oversight during TBM and tunnel construction activities, reporting to the Tunnel Resident Engineer and supporting accurate delivery of tunnels, galleries, segment production, and underground interfaces.
The role centers on precision alignment. The engineer will review traverse calculations, tunnel control networks, virtual axis calculations, TBM guidance information, settlement monitoring, and 3D survey data to ensure excavation and segment installation remain within allowable tolerances.
The position also supports breakthrough planning, NATM interfaces, precast segment production, as-built surveys, and integration of survey information with instrumentation and geotechnical monitoring. Accurate survey control is critical to preventing alignment errors, structural conflicts, and costly corrective works during underground construction.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise and review survey activities associated with TBM tunnel construction and segment production.
* Prepare daily and weekly survey reports covering alignment performance, deviations, and emerging trends.
* Contribute survey findings to risk registers and non-conformance reporting where required.
* Monitor TBM tunneling activities and verify horizontal and vertical alignment.
* Review settlement and heave monitoring information at surface and underground locations.
* Review traverse calculations and verify survey control transfer into tunnel environments.
* Establish and maintain primary and secondary survey control networks inside tunnels.
* Verify transfer of surface control points through shafts and underground access points.
* Review implementation of tunnel center points at stations and key structural interfaces.
* Check tunnel virtual axis calculations against approved design information.
* Monitor TBM alignment and confirm machine progression remains within specified tolerances.
* Review TBM guidance calculations, including laser target extensions and alignment inputs.
* Check TBM roll, pitch, yaw, tunnel lips, and steps and report significant deviations.
* Support ring installation control on horizontal and vertical curves.
* Review survey software outputs used for TBM guidance and precast ring positioning.
* Participate in breakthrough planning and precise alignment verification.
* Coordinate breakthrough surveys with receiving shaft teams and construction personnel.
* Conduct or review 3D measurements before and after breakthroughs.

Ideal Profile
Candidates should hold a bachelor\'s degree in Civil Engineering, Survey Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
A minimum of eight years of relevant experience is required in TBM tunneling, tunnel surveying, metro construction, or major underground infrastructure projects.
Previous metro project experience is strongly preferred because the role involves precise alignment control, underground networks, tunnel interfaces, and operationally sensitive construction stages.
Candidates should understand TBM operating sequences, underground construction methods, precast segment installation, tunnel geometry, and survey control principles.
Practical familiarity with Total Stations, laser guidance systems, 3D scanners, survey software, and tunnel alignment calculations is required.
