Role Context
The Tunneling Inspector will provide continuous field oversight across tunnel construction activities in Dubai, with particular emphasis on works involving Tunnel Boring Machines and precast segmental liners.
Working within the Construction Supervision team, the inspector will help confirm that temporary and permanent works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, construction methods, contractual requirements, and safety procedures.
The role has a direct impact on construction quality and project readiness. Accurate inspections, clear records, and early identification of site issues will help reduce rework, support engineering decisions, and improve the reliability of final handover documentation.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspect tunnel construction activities to confirm compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
* Review site conditions and verify suitability for the designed permanent works.
* Monitor Tunnel Boring Machine related construction activities within the assigned scope.
* Inspect precast liner installation and verify alignment, workmanship, and compliance with project requirements.
* Examine temporary works and confirm they are constructed according to approved methods.
* Provide practical construction observations and technical input to the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer.
* Maintain accurate records of inspections, completed work, site observations, and construction progress.
* Identify nonconforming work and communicate findings promptly to the supervision team.
* Monitor contractor execution and highlight construction issues requiring corrective action.
* Direct and coordinate other inspectors where assigned and monitor the quality of their inspection activities.
* Assist with measurement of completed works when required for progress verification.
* Observe site health and safety procedures and report unsafe conditions or practices.
* Support implementation of safe work practices throughout tunnel construction.
* Assist with preparation and review of as-built drawings and supporting records.
* Verify that as-built information reflects completed tunnel works accurately.
* Participate in inspections of completed construction before final acceptance.
* Prepare snag lists covering outstanding defects or incomplete work.
* Follow up on snag rectification before project handover.
* Support transfer of completed tunnel works to the relevant operating authority.
* Maintain clear communication with engineers, contractors, inspectors, and project staff during construction supervision activities.
Ideal Profile
Candidates should hold a bachelor\'s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering with at least four years of relevant construction supervision experience.
Applicants holding a diploma in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering should have a minimum of seven years of related construction supervision experience.
Direct project experience involving Tunnel Boring Machines and precast liners is mandatory.
Experience working on tunnel or underground infrastructure projects within Dubai, the wider UAE, or the GCC is preferred.
Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm will be particularly valuable.
Candidates should understand construction inspection procedures, temporary works, permanent works, site records, quality requirements, and project safety practices.
Good written and spoken communication skills are required, together with the ability to communicate technical issues clearly and logically with management and site teams.
