This role requires approximately 10-12 hours of weekly availability. Previous AI experience is not required. Strong engineering judgment, production-level development experience, and the ability to communicate technical reasoning are more important.

Role Context
The Software Engineer will complete practical development and evaluation tasks that improve how AI systems understand code, architecture, debugging, testing, infrastructure, and software delivery. Assignments may involve backend services, full-stack applications, APIs, databases, integrations, cloud environments, or production operations.
The engineer will assess whether proposed solutions are correct, secure, maintainable, scalable, and appropriate for the stated requirements. Clear explanations are essential because each response should demonstrate not only what works, but why it works and which alternatives or tradeoffs were considered.
Key Responsibilities
* Complete advanced software engineering tasks across backend, full-stack, infrastructure, and systems environments.
* Read and understand unfamiliar codebases, technical specifications, and architectural requirements.
* Review code for correctness, maintainability, performance, reliability, security, and clarity.
* Debug application errors, integration failures, performance issues, and unexpected system behavior.
* Improve existing code through refactoring, optimization, stronger abstractions, and clearer documentation.
* Design and assess APIs, services, databases, integrations, and distributed application components.
* Evaluate architectural decisions and explain their technical and operational consequences.
* Identify tradeoffs involving scalability, performance, maintainability, reliability, security, cost, and developer experience.
* Develop practical solutions that reflect production-level software engineering standards.
* Review testing strategies, unit tests, integration tests, and quality assurance workflows.
* Assess deployment processes, CI-CD pipelines, container configurations, and operational practices.
* Explain technical decisions clearly, including alternative approaches and reasons for selecting a specific solution.
* Collaborate with project teams on code reviews, implementation decisions, and engineering problem-solving exercises.
* Adapt quickly to unfamiliar programming languages, frameworks, libraries, and project environments.
* Document assumptions, dependencies, risks, limitations, and recommended improvements.
* Complete assigned tasks within the agreed weekly availability and project deadlines.
Ideal Profile
* Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
* Strong hands-on experience in at least one backend or full-stack development environment.
* Proficiency in technologies such as Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, Java, C#, .NET, C++, Go, Ruby, PHP, or similar languages.
* Proven experience building, maintaining, debugging, or reviewing production-level applications.
* Strong understanding of APIs, services, databases, integrations, and application architecture.
* Practical knowledge of software testing, debugging, code quality, and version control.
* Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs objectively and explain decisions clearly.
* Comfortable reading unfamiliar code and identifying its structure, dependencies, and behavior.
* Experience assessing scalability, reliability, maintainability, security, and performance.
* Strong written English for documenting engineering reasoning and technical recommendations.
* Ability to work independently in a remote and deadline-driven environment.
* Experience collaborating with distributed development or technical teams.
* Strong problem-solving ability with careful attention to implementation details.
* Previous AI model training or evaluation experience is helpful but not required.
Preferred Experience
* Experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
* Knowledge of CI-CD pipelines, DevOps practices, containers, monitoring, and production operations.
* Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar tools.
* Familiarity with React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, React Native, or comparable frontend technologies.
* Open-source contributions, public GitHub repositories, or technical writing samples.
* Experience mentoring developers, reviewing pull requests, or making architecture decisions.
* Exposure to distributed systems, microservices, event-driven applications, or cloud-native development.
