Role
The Dry Utilities Inspector - Site Works will support the successful delivery of utility infrastructure by inspecting installation activities, reviewing workmanship, checking materials, and confirming that site execution follows approved designs and project standards. The position plays an important role in reducing construction defects, supporting safety compliance, improving field coordination, and helping project teams deliver reliable dry utility systems for long-term operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspect dry utility installation works including electrical services, telecommunications infrastructure, duct routes, chambers, manholes, cable corridors, and related site works.
* Check alignment, levels, gradients, spacing, protection requirements, and installation quality against approved drawings and specifications.
* Verify that utility construction activities comply with project documentation, local authority requirements, industry codes, and approved method statements.
* Monitor materials and workmanship on site to ensure works meet required quality standards before acceptance.
* Witness testing and commissioning activities for utility systems and confirm that results meet project requirements.
* Review trenching, excavation, bedding, duct laying, backfilling, reinstatement, and related civil interface activities.
* Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, utility providers, engineers, and project managers to resolve field issues quickly and accurately.
* Identify non-conforming works, construction defects, safety concerns, and documentation gaps, then report findings through the correct project channels.
* Support inspection requests, daily site records, quality reports, progress updates, and follow-up actions for open observations.
* Assist project teams with design clarification, site changes, corrective actions, and practical solutions during utility installation works.
* Confirm that utility works are performed safely and that contractors follow approved safety procedures during excavation, lifting, installation, and testing.
* Observe environmental practices on site, including waste handling, housekeeping, stormwater control, and responsible disposal of construction materials.
Ideal Profile
* Diploma or bachelor\'s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in utility systems inspection for construction, infrastructure, roads, buildings, or urban development projects.
* Strong practical understanding of dry utility systems, especially electrical and telecommunications infrastructure.
* Experience reviewing utility drawings, shop drawings, specifications, method statements, inspection requests, and material approvals.
* Familiarity with ASTM, BS, ISO, local authority standards, and project-specific construction requirements.
* Good knowledge of trenching, excavation, duct installation, backfilling, testing, commissioning, and site inspection procedures.
* Ability to communicate clearly with contractors, consultants, engineers, and multidisciplinary project teams.
* Strong reporting skills with the ability to document site findings, quality issues, and corrective actions accurately.
* Good understanding of safety regulations and best practices for utility works in active construction areas.
* Detail-oriented approach with the confidence to challenge poor workmanship and support compliant project delivery.
