Role Purpose
The Senior Estimation Engineer will support tendering and pre-construction activities by developing detailed project estimates from technical drawings, specifications, tender documents, market pricing,
labour productivity, plant requirements, and subcontractor inputs.
The role requires close coordination with Design, Planning, Procurement, Operations, and Commercial teams to ensure estimates reflect the complete project scope and identify potential cost exposure before submission.
Estimation and Tendering Responsibilities
* Review architectural, structural, MEP, and other project drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
* Prepare and review BOQs covering relevant construction trades.
* Develop detailed cost estimates based on quantities, materials, labour, plant, subcontractor costs, and other project requirements.
* Prepare unit-rate build-ups and analyze rates for materials, labour, equipment, and subcontract works.
* Prepare labour productivity costs and incorporate them into project estimates.
* Use Candy Software for construction estimation and cost development.
* Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors and evaluate commercial offers.
* Incorporate approved quotations and current market rates into project estimates.
* Prepare tender summaries and comparative statements for management review.
* Develop preliminary budgets, cost plans, and project feasibility estimates.
* Complete estimates accurately and within required tender deadlines.
Cost Analysis and Risk Review
* Review tender documents for discrepancies, omissions, exclusions, and potential cost risks.
* Identify risks associated with project costs, scope changes, and other factors that could affect pricing.
* Review drawings to identify design changes and scope variations with potential cost implications.
* Assess supplier and subcontractor pricing against project requirements.
* Maintain clear assumptions and exclusions within estimation documentation.
* Support value engineering proposals and evaluate practical cost-saving alternatives.
Commercial and Technical Coordination
Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, and internal departments to clarify scope, technical requirements, and pricing.
The Senior Estimation Engineer will work closely with Design, Planning, Procurement, Operations, and Commercial teams throughout the estimation process to ensure technical information and commercial inputs are properly reflected in project pricing.
Cost Data and Documentation
* Maintain and update cost databases and historical project rates.
* Maintain supplier and subcontractor quotations.
* Update benchmark rates used for future estimation activities.
* Keep complete records of tender documents, assumptions, exclusions, quotations, and estimation calculations.
* Maintain traceable supporting information for submitted estimates.
* Carry out additional estimation and cost-related responsibilities assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
* BE or BSc in Civil Engineering.
* Minimum 10-15 years of experience in estimation.
* Strong construction site experience is additionally required.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and project documentation.
* Experience preparing detailed construction estimates and BOQs.
* Knowledge of labour productivity costing.
* Strong understanding of construction materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
* Excellent communication skills and strong theoretical knowledge.
