Role Context
The Senior Structural
Engineer will provide senior technical oversight for structural construction activities and help ensure that approved engineering designs are translated accurately into completed building works. The position requires close attention to structural integrity, construction sequencing, material performance, workmanship, and safe execution throughout the project lifecycle.
As a technical authority on site, the engineer will also guide other supervision personnel, resolve structural challenges, and coordinate with architects, contractors, consultants, and project leadership. Timely technical decisions in this role can directly reduce rework, prevent delays, and protect the quality and long-term performance of the completed structure.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise structural construction activities across active building project areas.
* Verify that site works comply with approved structural drawings, specifications, and engineering requirements.
* Conduct regular structural inspections to assess workmanship, dimensions, installation quality, and construction progress.
* Review structural elements at critical stages before subsequent works proceed.
* Evaluate construction activities for compliance with applicable building codes and safety standards.
* Analyze structural issues identified during construction and develop practical engineering solutions.
* Provide technical direction when unforeseen site conditions affect approved structural requirements.
* Review structural drawings and associated technical documentation before site implementation.
* Examine shop drawings for consistency with approved design requirements and construction intent.
* Review proposed construction sequences where they may affect structural stability, access, quality, or programme performance.
* Coordinate with architects to resolve structural and architectural interface issues.
* Work with contractors and other engineering disciplines to address construction conflicts efficiently.
* Support multidisciplinary coordination where structural works interact with MEP installations or architectural components.
* Monitor structural material quality and verify compliance with specified technical standards.
* Review relevant material test results and inspection records.
* Observe testing procedures and ensure structural components meet required acceptance criteria.
* Identify non-conforming structural work and establish appropriate corrective actions.
* Monitor remedial works until technical requirements have been satisfactorily achieved.
* Conduct follow-up inspections to verify completion of agreed corrective measures.
* Perform quality control checks across structural construction activities.
* Maintain accurate inspection records, technical reports, photographs, and progress documentation.
* Prepare clear written assessments of significant structural observations and unresolved issues.
* Communicate technical risks, project status, and recommendations to project leadership.
* Escalate critical structural concerns where they could affect safety, quality, cost, or programme.
