Role Context
The Cycle 2 and 3 Teacher will be responsible for planning, teaching, assessing, and supporting learners across a mixed-gender American curriculum school. The role focuses on helping students achieve strong academic outcomes while developing independence, confidence, positive behaviour, and readiness for future learning. The teacher will also contribute to curriculum planning, parent communication, student wellbeing, and the wider school community.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver inspiring lessons that help students achieve the best possible academic and personal outcomes.
* Plan and prepare classroom sessions that meet curriculum requirements and support different ability levels.
* Organise classroom resources, learning areas, and displays to create an engaging and structured learning environment.
* Work alongside fellow teachers to plan effective lessons, share practice, and support consistent curriculum delivery.
* Motivate students through imaginative, practical, and age-appropriate teaching approaches.
* Observe and assess students in line with school assessment expectations and development targets.
* Use Target Tracker and assessment data to guide planning, intervention, and future learning provision.
* Take responsibility for the progress, wellbeing, and daily classroom experience of assigned students.
* Build positive working relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues, and the wider school community.
* Communicate with parents and carers during conferences and meetings regarding achievement, progress, and wellbeing.
* Liaise with curriculum support staff and external professionals when required to support student development.
* Reflect on lessons, classroom provision, and student progress to adjust planning and improve learning outcomes.
* Follow the school behaviour policy and manage classes using strategies appropriate to student needs.
* Promote positive behaviour, self-control, independence, respect, and responsible learning habits.
* Act as a strong role model by demonstrating the attitudes, values, and behaviour expected from students.
* Embed Teacher and Learner DNA language and attitudes throughout daily classroom practice.
* Carry out duties as directed and follow all school policies, safeguarding standards, and professional expectations.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related subject with PGCE or another recognised teaching qualification.
* Experience teaching in an American curriculum, Cycle 2, Cycle 3, primary, or middle school setting preferred.
* Clear understanding of curriculum planning, classroom delivery, student assessment, and progress tracking.
* Ability to plan lessons that support a broad range of learning needs and abilities.
* Strong classroom management skills with a positive and respectful approach to behaviour.
* Excellent communication skills for working with students, parents, teachers, and school leaders.
* Reflective teaching style with the ability to adapt lessons and learning environments based on student progress.
* Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and curriculum support staff.
* Commitment to educating the whole child and supporting student wellbeing.
* Professional, organised, flexible, and solution-focused approach to school life.
