Role Context
The Drama Teacher - GCSE Theatre will join GEMS Founders School, Al Mizhar and support students in developing performance confidence, creative expression, communication skills, theatre knowledge, collaboration, and reflective practice. The role combines classroom teaching with wider contribution to school productions, performances, extra-curricular activities, and community events. The successful teacher will help students grow, flourish, and practise mindfulness through meaningful drama learning and a positive performing arts environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver high-quality Drama lessons aligned with GCSE expectations and school curriculum standards.
* Teach performance skills, theatre techniques, character development, improvisation, script work, devising, staging, and dramatic interpretation.
* Support students in preparing for GCSE Drama assessments, practical performances, written analysis, and reflective evaluation.
* Create an inclusive and energetic classroom where students feel confident to perform, collaborate, experiment, and take creative risks.
* Use imaginative teaching strategies to develop communication, confidence, empathy, teamwork, and expressive skills.
* Monitor student progress through rehearsal work, written tasks, performances, feedback, and assessment evidence.
* Provide constructive feedback that helps students improve performance technique, stage presence, interpretation, and analytical understanding.
* Differentiate lessons to support students with varied abilities, confidence levels, language backgrounds, and creative interests.
* Share exemplary teaching practices with colleagues and contribute to department improvement.
* Support school productions, showcases, assemblies, drama clubs, performance events, and extra-curricular theatre activities.
* Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and school leaders regarding progress, expectations, and support needs.
* Promote positive behaviour, professional rehearsal habits, respectful collaboration, and high standards of presentation.
* Engage in CPD, reflective teaching practice, and professional development opportunities within the GEMS network.
* Role model the school values of Grow, Flourish, and Mindfulness through teaching, teamwork, and community involvement.
Ideal Profile
* BEd or Bachelor\'s degree in Drama, Theatre, Performing Arts, or a related subject with PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent teaching qualification.
* Proven experience teaching Drama to GCSE level.
* Strong understanding of drama pedagogy, theatre practice, performance assessment, and student-centred learning.
* Ability to inspire students through creative, practical, and reflective approaches to Drama education.
* Proven track record of delivering outstanding learning and teaching.
* Creative and enthusiastic approach inside and outside the classroom.
* Excellent interpersonal skills for working closely with colleagues, students, and parents.
* Confidence in supporting school performances, extra-curricular programmes, productions, and community-based initiatives.
