Key Responsibilities
* Teach Drama lessons that develop student confidence, performance ability, creative expression, storytelling, and theatre knowledge.
* Plan a balanced drama curriculum covering classical theatre, contemporary performance, improvisation, scriptwriting, movement, voice, and stagecraft.
* Direct student productions, showcases, workshops, and performance projects that encourage teamwork and artistic discipline.
* Support students in exploring technical theatre elements such as lighting, sound, staging, set awareness, production planning, and backstage coordination.
* Use practical, project-based, and performance-led teaching methods to help students connect theory with real stage experience.
* Integrate interdisciplinary learning by linking drama with literature, music, media, design, technology, and wider creative arts.
* Prepare students for further study, examinations, auditions, competitions, and future pathways in performing arts and creative industries.
* Collaborate with theatre companies, guest artists, colleagues, and school leadership to enrich student learning opportunities.
* Track student progress through rehearsals, performances, written reflections, practical assessments, and creative portfolios.
* Maintain a safe, inclusive, and well-managed drama learning environment that supports safeguarding and student wellbeing.
Ideal Profile
* Recognised teaching qualification such as B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent.
* Experience teaching Drama, Performing Arts, theatre studies, or a related creative subject in a school environment.
* Strong knowledge of performance techniques, theatre history, script interpretation, improvisation, stagecraft, and production work.
* Ability to lead student productions and manage rehearsals, performances, and creative projects with confidence.
* Skilled in encouraging students of different abilities to participate, perform, collaborate, and build self-expression.
* Comfortable using modern learning tools, digital media, and emerging performance approaches to enhance drama education.
* Strong classroom management, communication, planning, and assessment skills.
* Commitment to safeguarding, inclusive education, student wellbeing, and professional teaching standards.
