Role Context
The Head of Humanities will lead the humanities department by supporting curriculum planning, teaching standards, assessment quality, and staff collaboration across the subject area. The position plays an important role in strengthening student progress, maintaining high academic expectations, and helping teachers deliver engaging lessons aligned with school values and international education benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the Humanities department and support high standards of teaching, learning, assessment, and student progress.
* Develop and monitor curriculum plans that support British curriculum expectations and school improvement priorities.
* Guide teachers in delivering engaging humanities lessons that encourage inquiry, critical thinking, and subject confidence.
* Use assessment data to identify student needs, track progress, and support targeted academic interventions.
* Promote consistent classroom practice, strong behaviour expectations, and inclusive learning across the department.
* Support professional development, mentoring, and collaboration among humanities teachers.
* Contribute to department planning, resource development, academic reviews, and whole-school initiatives.
* Work closely with senior leaders to align departmental goals with the school’s vision and strategic priorities.
* Encourage student participation, curiosity, and achievement across humanities subjects.
* Maintain accurate records, support reporting processes, and communicate effectively with parents when required.
* Uphold safeguarding expectations, school policies, and professional standards at all times.
* Contribute to a positive school culture where students and staff are encouraged to grow, flourish, and achieve.
Ideal Profile
* Qualified teacher with a relevant degree in Humanities, History, Geography, Social Studies, or a related subject.
* Recognized teaching qualification such as QTS, PGCE, iPGCE, B.Ed., or equivalent.
* Proven experience teaching humanities within a British curriculum or international school setting.
* Previous middle leadership, department leadership, or subject coordination experience preferred.
* Strong understanding of curriculum design, assessment practice, and student progress tracking.
* Ability to inspire teachers and students through clear academic direction and supportive leadership.
* Excellent communication, planning, organization, and team development skills.
* Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, wellbeing, and high professional standards.
