Role Context
The Head of ICT will lead the strategic direction, curriculum quality, assessment standards, and daily improvement of the ICT and Computer Science department. The role supports student achievement through strong schemes of work, effective use of data, staff development, differentiated provision, and a stimulating digital learning environment that prepares students for future academic and technology pathways.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement departmental policies and practices aligned with the school vision, academic aims, and high standards of teaching and learning.
* Establish, monitor, and evaluate short, medium, and long-term plans for ICT and Computer Science department development.
* Use student data to identify underachievement and create targeted action plans that support measurable progress.
* Analyse school and department data to inform policies, intervention planning, and school self-evaluation work.
* Ensure relevant schemes of work are developed, implemented, reviewed, and improved for all year groups and courses.
* Build suitable provision into curriculum planning for SEN-POD, gifted and talented, and EAL students.
* Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression across ICT and Computer Science learning pathways.
* Set clear expectations for staff in relation to student achievement, teaching quality, learning standards, and behaviour.
* Evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the department and identify practical areas for improvement.
* Support teachers in strengthening classroom practice, digital learning strategies, assessment use, and student engagement.
* Ensure the department contributes to the CAS programme and after-school booster or revision sessions for IGCSE and IB Diploma courses.
* Promote effective assessment, recording, and reporting processes across the department.
* Support students in developing computational thinking, digital literacy, programming awareness, and technology confidence.
* Work collaboratively with senior leaders and colleagues to support whole-school priorities and continuous improvement.
* Maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that encourages responsible use of technology.
* Uphold safeguarding requirements, professional conduct, school policies, and Aldar Education standards at all times.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, ICT, Information Technology, Education, or a related subject.
* PGCE, QTS, PGDE, or another recognised teaching qualification.
* Experience teaching the British curriculum, English National Curriculum, IGCSE, or IB Diploma pathways preferred.
* Proven ability to lead curriculum planning, assessment review, departmental improvement, and staff collaboration.
* Strong knowledge of ICT, Computer Science, digital learning, programming concepts, and educational technology.
* Experience using data to raise standards, close learning gaps, and improve student progress.
* Ability to support diverse learners, including SEN-POD, gifted and talented, and EAL students.
* Confident leadership style with strong communication, organisation, and decision-making skills.
* Commitment to enrichment, revision support, innovation, and wider school life.
* Professional understanding of regional values, safeguarding expectations, and inclusive education practice.
* Satisfactory references and police clearance required for appointment.
