Role Context
The Head of Inclusion will lead whole-school inclusion provision by supporting teachers, managing the Inclusion team, maintaining accurate SEN records, and ensuring students with additional needs receive effective support. The role has direct impact on student achievement, access to learning, parent confidence, teacher development, admissions decisions, intervention quality, and the school’s commitment to inclusive education aligned with the expectations of Abu Dhabi’s education sector.
Key Responsibilities
* Promote inclusion across the school and help embed inclusive practice at all levels.
* Act as an exemplary classroom teacher and guide staff on SEN, learning support, and differentiated teaching.
* Line manage staff responsible for supporting children with special educational needs.
* Maintain accurate SEN records, registers, Individual Education Plans, and coordinated care plans.
* Review whole-school assessment data to identify priority areas and students requiring targeted support.
* Conduct assessments to identify student needs, development delays, and appropriate intervention pathways.
* Provide training to teachers, support staff, inclusion assistants, colleagues, and families.
* Deliver full induction and ongoing training for the Inclusion team and Inclusion assistants.
* Undertake co-teaching to support class or subject teachers with differentiated lesson delivery.
* Participate in admissions, evaluations, assessments, and transitions for Students of Determination.
* Develop high-quality IEPs, intervention plans, and student support strategies.
* Lead and monitor specific intervention programmes and measure their effectiveness.
* Use data to track student progress, attainment, and the impact of learning support provision.
* Collaborate with parents, teachers, school leaders, and external professionals to support student outcomes.
* Ensure inclusion practices reflect school values, Emirati community expectations, ADEK requirements, and safeguarding standards.
* Support a school culture where every learner can access meaningful education and make measurable progress.
Ideal Profile
* Qualified teacher with relevant teaching credentials.
* SEN qualification at Master’s level or recognised external certification in an aspect of SEN.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in the field of SEN.
* Previous experience leading SEN, Inclusion, or Learning Support in a primary or secondary school.
* Strong experience maintaining accurate SEN registers and meaningful student support records.
* Proven ability to develop high-quality IEPs, care plans, and intervention programmes.
* Capacity to identify a range of need types, learning barriers, and development delays.
* Experience administering standardized assessments to inform provision and student support planning.
* Confident in delivering intervention programmes and evaluating their effectiveness.
* Strong ability to use data to monitor Students of Determination progress and attainment.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills for working with teachers, families, support staff, and school leaders.
* Professional understanding of inclusive education, safeguarding, confidentiality, and student wellbeing.
* Positive attitude toward diverse school communities and regional values.
* Police clearance, satisfactory references, and safeguarding checks required for appointment.
