Role Context
The Head of Mathematics will guide mathematics teaching across primary classes, helping teachers deliver high-quality lessons, use effective assessment, and build strong numeracy foundations for students. The role supports curriculum consistency, professional collaboration, student achievement, and the development of engaging learning experiences that reflect the standards of a BSO-accredited school.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and delivery of mathematics teaching across primary classes.
* Promote high standards of learning, progress, assessment, and classroom practice in mathematics.
* Support teachers in planning engaging lessons that build confidence, fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
* Share exemplary teaching practices with colleagues through coaching, modelling, and collaborative planning.
* Monitor student progress and use assessment evidence to identify gaps, improve outcomes, and support targeted intervention.
* Contribute to curriculum planning, resource development, and subject improvement priorities.
* Encourage creative and practical approaches to mathematics learning inside and outside the classroom.
* Work closely with teachers, students, parents, and senior leaders to support academic development.
* Help maintain a positive school culture built around growth, curiosity, achievement, and active participation.
* Contribute to extracurricular activities, school events, and community-based programmes.
* Uphold safeguarding expectations, school policies, professional standards, and GEMS values at all times.
* Support whole-school improvement by bringing energy, initiative, and a commitment to continuous development.
Ideal Profile
* B.Ed, Bachelor’s degree major in Mathematics, or equivalent qualification.
* PGCE with QTS in Mathematics is highly desirable.
* Proven experience teaching mathematics in primary classes.
* Experience in subject coordination, curriculum leadership, or middle leadership preferred.
* Strong understanding of British curriculum expectations and effective primary mathematics pedagogy.
* Proven record of delivering outstanding teaching and learning.
* Ability to share best practice and support colleagues with confidence and professionalism.
* Creative, enthusiastic, and student-focused approach to classroom teaching.
* Excellent interpersonal skills for working with colleagues, students, parents, and school leaders.
* Strong aspiration to grow within a world-class international school environment.
* Willingness to contribute actively to extracurricular and community-based school activities.
* UK-enhanced DBS, police clearance, or equivalent background check required for appointment.
