The Head of Science - Curriculum Leadership will lead the strategic planning and delivery of science education across key stages at GEMS Founders School Dubai South. The role requires strong classroom practice, curriculum knowledge, assessment awareness, staff collaboration, and the ability to raise standards through effective teaching and learning. The successful candidate will help shape a positive, inclusive, and ambitious science department while contributing to the wider school community through leadership, innovation, and active engagement.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the planning, development, and delivery of the science curriculum across relevant key stages.
* Ensure science teaching is engaging, well-structured, inclusive, and aligned with school expectations.
* Monitor student progress through assessment data, classroom evidence, and regular academic review.
* Identify learning gaps and coordinate timely intervention strategies to support student achievement.
* Support science teachers with curriculum planning, lesson quality, assessment practice, and classroom improvement.
* Work closely with senior leaders and department heads to strengthen a cohesive educational experience across the school.
* Promote high expectations for student behavior, academic progress, practical science learning, and personal development.
* Encourage creative teaching approaches that build curiosity, scientific thinking, problem-solving, and confidence.
* Use assessment outcomes to improve teaching strategies, learning resources, and curriculum planning.
* Contribute to school improvement priorities through departmental leadership, professional collaboration, and reflective practice.
* Maintain strong communication with students, parents, colleagues, and leadership regarding learning progress and department goals.
* Support extracurricular science activities, community events, enrichment programs, and wider school initiatives.
* Model the school values of Grow, Flourish and Discover You through daily leadership and professional conduct.
Ideal Profile
* BEd or Bachelor\'s degree in Science with PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent teaching qualification.
* Proven record of outstanding teaching and learning in science.
* Experience in a British curriculum, international school, or high-performing school environment is preferred.
* Strong understanding of science curriculum planning, assessment, student progress tracking, and academic intervention.
* Ability to lead, motivate, and support colleagues within a collaborative department structure.
* Creative and enthusiastic approach to teaching both inside and outside the classroom.
