Role Context
The Inclusion Assistant - Student Support will help students with Additional Educational Needs access lessons, participate in classroom activities, and develop confidence in their learning. The role supports teachers by preparing resources, assisting with differentiated tasks, reinforcing learning, monitoring progress, and helping students build study, organization, communication, and independence skills. By working respectfully with students, teachers, parents, and school staff, the position contributes to a supportive learning culture where every child can feel valued and included.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the school in achieving its vision, improvement priorities, and inclusive education targets.
* Work with students who have Additional Educational Needs or special educational needs to help them access lessons and learning activities.
* Take account of each student’s individual needs by providing clarification, explanations, learning materials, and appropriate classroom support.
* Help reinforce learning through guided practice, questioning, modelling, and encouragement.
* Promote independent learning by supporting students to organize tasks, follow routines, and build confidence.
* Assist students with physical needs where required, while maintaining dignity, care, and respect.
* Help students record work in an appropriate way based on their abilities and support requirements.
* Develop students’ study skills, organization skills, motivation, and ability to remain focused on tasks.
* Build and maintain positive relationships with students and treat them consistently with respect and consideration.
* Support student confidence, self-esteem, engagement, and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
* Maintain liaison with parents regarding student performance, where directed by the school.
* Attend formal and informal meetings with teachers to understand teaching and learning plans for lessons and activities.
* Prepare classroom materials, resources, and learning support tools as required.
* Prepare students before specific tasks so they understand expectations and feel ready to participate.
* Work on differentiated activities with identified groups of students.
* Support teachers in applying specific teaching techniques and intervention strategies.
* Supervise practical tasks and assist students during classroom-based learning activities.
* Contribute to record keeping and evaluation of identified students’ progress.
* Comply with school health and safety regulations, safe working practices, equal opportunities expectations, and internal policies.
* Complete annual training linked to safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and school improvement.
* Follow staff dress code, ID requirements, computer acceptable use policy, attendance expectations, and sign-in or sign-out procedures.
* Attend staff briefings and participate in training or performance development activities as required.
* Maintain confidentiality and handle student information with professionalism and discretion.
* Support the wider ethos of the school and contribute positively to a warm, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
Ideal Profile
* Two-year diploma in Education or Special Education.
* High school diploma may be considered with a recognized Special Education training program.
* Minimum 2 years of experience in inclusion support, special education support, classroom assistance, or a similar school-based role.
* Previous experience working with students for whom English is not the first language will be an advantage.
* Good understanding of Additional Educational Needs, student support strategies, differentiated activities, and inclusive classroom practice.
* Passion for supporting children and commitment to educating the whole child.
* High level of professionalism with genuine consideration for student wellbeing.
* Respect for all members of the school community regardless of role, gender, age, nationality, or background.
* Positive and solution-focused approach to school life and daily responsibilities.
* Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, support staff, parents, and school leadership.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to support students calmly and respectfully.
* Patient, organized, reliable, and able to follow teacher direction while showing initiative when appropriate.
* Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities will be beneficial.
* Clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police clearance required.
