Role Context
The Inspection Engineer supports plant reliability and operational safety by performing technical inspections, non-destructive testing, and condition assessments across static equipment and piping systems. The role helps prevent failures, supports maintenance planning, and ensures compliance with engineering standards and inspection procedures across Borouge operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Execute non-destructive testing and inspection activities on static equipment, piping systems, and pressure-containing assets during on-stream and shutdown periods
* Perform ultrasonic testing, dye penetrant testing, magnetic particle inspection, and support radiographic testing interpretation with NDT technicians
* Determine the most suitable inspection methods and tools based on equipment condition, operating environment, downtime, and safety requirements
* Ensure all inspection activities are performed in full compliance with HSE, quality, and environmental procedures
* Guide and support NDT technicians under the supervision of Inspection and Corrosion Engineers for effective resource utilization
* Assist with warehouse inspection of incoming materials and perform Positive Material Identification (PMI) inspections where required
* Collect samples of deposits, scales, and failed components for corrosion analysis and failure investigation
* Review failures and incidents, assess inspection history, and recommend updates to inspection methods and standards
* Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to schedule inspection activities and shutdown work
* Identify and communicate equipment threats, expected failures, and technical concerns to Inspection Engineers with estimated operational impact
* Prepare General Inspection Reports (GIR), Inspection Worksheets (IWS), and detailed NDT reports for engineering approval
* Maintain accurate inspection records in SAP QM, Excel logs, sketches, and equipment folders for easy retrieval and compliance
* Support technical assessment services for operational teams and provide inspection input during commissioning and repair works
* Coordinate with lifting equipment inspectors and witness testing of safety valves, hoses, and mechanical systems
* Carry out quality control activities according to Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for project and maintenance work
Ideal Profile
* Diploma in Technical Discipline with preference for Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering
* Minimum 6 years of inspection experience in petrochemical or oil and gas industries for diploma holders, or minimum 2 years for engineering graduates
* Strong experience inspecting pressure vessels, piping, storage tanks, boilers, furnaces, flares, and stacks
* Hands-on expertise in non-destructive testing and plant equipment inspection
* Familiarity with international fabrication and inspection codes for static equipment and piping
* Knowledge of engineering drawings, technical manuals, and inspection symbols
* Experience with SAP entries, quality documentation, checklists, and reporting systems
* Strong written reporting accuracy and high attention to detail
* Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal
* API 510, API 570, AWS, CSWIP 3.2, and ASNT Level II certifications are preferred
