Role Context
The Phase Leader - Primary Leadership will provide strategic and operational leadership across a primary phase, ensuring that pupils experience high-quality teaching, meaningful curriculum progression, strong pastoral care, and a safe, inclusive learning environment. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the role will influence school improvement priorities, support staff development, monitor pupil progress, strengthen parent partnerships, and help shape a culture where every child is encouraged to achieve their full potential.
Core Duties
* Lead and manage a designated phase within the primary school, ensuring clear expectations for teaching quality, pupil progress, behaviour, safeguarding, and wellbeing.
* Support the implementation of the school’s vision, values, development plans, and strategic priorities across year groups.
* Drive continuous improvement through effective monitoring, evaluation, lesson review, data analysis, action planning, and follow-up with teaching teams.
* Contribute to whole-school decision-making as part of the leadership structure, bringing clear insight from phase-level performance and daily school operations.
* Ensure consistently strong teaching and learning across the phase by setting high standards, sharing effective practice, and supporting professional accountability.
* Monitor pupil attainment, progress, and assessment data, using evidence to identify gaps, plan interventions, and improve outcomes for all learners.
* Lead coaching, mentoring, and professional development for teachers and support staff, helping colleagues grow in confidence and classroom impact.
* Promote evidence-informed teaching methods, creative classroom practice, and approaches that support engagement, independence, and deeper learning.
* Support the planning, delivery, and development of a broad, balanced, and engaging primary curriculum.
* Ensure curriculum implementation meets the needs of different learners, including pupils requiring additional support, challenge, or personalized strategies.
* Monitor curriculum standards across year groups and evaluate the impact of teaching, assessment, resources, and learning experiences.
* Foster an inclusive, respectful, and nurturing phase culture where pupils feel safe, supported, motivated, and ready to learn.
* Lead phase-level approaches to behaviour, attendance, wellbeing, safeguarding, and pastoral care in line with school policies.
* Build strong relationships with parents and the wider school community, ensuring communication is clear, constructive, and focused on pupil success.
* Line manage year group leaders, teachers, and support staff as required, maintaining a culture of collaboration, responsibility, and professional growth.
* Conduct performance management activity, support development targets, and help staff align their practice with school improvement goals.
* Work with senior leaders on inspection readiness, quality assurance, staff deployment, curriculum review, safeguarding priorities, and phase-level improvement plans.
* Encourage a positive team culture where staff share ideas, solve challenges professionally, and maintain high expectations for every pupil.
Required Skills and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree and recognized teaching qualification are required.
* Proven successful experience as a middle or senior leader within a primary school setting.
* Strong understanding of the English National Curriculum and effective primary teaching practice.
* Demonstrable impact on improving teaching quality, pupil achievement, learning standards, and classroom outcomes.
* Experience leading, coaching, and developing teachers, year group leaders, and support staff.
* Strong knowledge of curriculum implementation, assessment tracking, intervention planning, and pupil progress monitoring.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate teams and build trust with parents, pupils, and colleagues.
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities across curriculum, staffing, wellbeing, data, and school improvement.
* Experience in an international school environment is desirable.
* NPQ qualification or equivalent leadership training is an advantage.
* Experience with inspection frameworks such as ADEK, BSO, or similar quality assurance systems is valuable.
