Role Context
The Physical Education Teacher will help students develop physical confidence, fitness, teamwork, discipline, resilience, and healthy habits through structured and inclusive learning experiences. The position requires thoughtful lesson planning, effective class management, regular assessment, and the ability to adapt activities for students with different levels of physical ability and prior experience.
The teacher will also contribute to the broader learning culture at Al Ghad Charter School by working with colleagues, parents, curriculum teams, and support professionals. Participation in extracurricular activities and school events forms an important part of the role, helping students connect classroom learning with wider personal development.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver Physical Education lessons that motivate students and support strong learning outcomes.
* Develop sessions that align with the school\'s American Curriculum and meet the needs of students across different ability levels.
* Create a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment for indoor and outdoor physical activities.
* Use varied teaching methods to encourage participation, teamwork, fitness, coordination, and skill development.
* Work collaboratively with teaching colleagues to prepare lessons, resources, assessments, and curriculum activities.
* Build positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and other members of the school community.
* Observe and assess student performance in line with school assessment expectations.
* Take responsibility for monitoring the progress of assigned classes and individual learners.
* Record student development using Target Tracker and maintain accurate assessment information.
* Use assessment data to adjust lesson planning, intervention, and differentiated provision.
* Reflect on student progress and adapt teaching strategies when additional support or challenge is required.
* Embed the school\'s Teacher and Learner DNA language and attitudes throughout teaching practice.
* Apply the school\'s behaviour policy consistently during lessons, activities, and wider school duties.
* Maintain clear expectations for discipline, participation, self-control, teamwork, and personal responsibility.
* Encourage students to develop confidence and independence through appropriate physical challenges.
* Communicate student progress, achievements, and well-being effectively to parents and caretakers.
* Participate in Parent Teacher Conferences and other meetings relating to student development.
* Use school systems such as CPOMS where appropriate to support communication and student welfare.
* Work with curriculum support staff and specialist professionals when student needs require additional coordination.
* Contribute to curriculum action groups covering planning, assessment, resources, and special events.
* Support school competitions, outings, sports events, activity days, and other programs that may occur outside standard school hours.
* Run a weekly extracurricular activity during each term.
* Promote inclusive participation and positive attitudes toward sport, movement, health, and physical well-being.
* Contribute positively to the wider life, ethos, and community culture of the school.
* Maintain safeguarding responsibilities and place student welfare at the center of professional practice.
Ideal Profile
Candidates should hold a Bachelor\'s Degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or another relevant subject together with a PGCE or other recognized teacher qualification.
Applicants should have approximately 1-2 years of teaching experience, preferably within a structured school environment.
Experience working with students for whom English is not their first language is particularly valuable in Abu Dhabi\'s multicultural education environment.
The successful candidate should demonstrate enthusiasm for physical education, commitment to whole-child development, and the ability to motivate students with different abilities and confidence levels.
Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities is important, particularly where experience includes sports clubs, school teams, fitness programs, competitions, or student enrichment activities.
